Resolved by following the advice of @c.harles. I.e., I replaced the data cables with two 1m straight LAN cables for the grand cost of R23.50 for both. I did still briefly get a F56 Battery Comms fault when I changed the inverter battery settings from Voltage to Lithium but then it got talking and the fault cleared. Now the inverter is talking Lithium mode to the BMS and identifies them as Dyness. All ports and DIP switch settings are the same as before. It was literally the cables that needed to be changed.

Ah, fair enough. Thank you for this post ^^^ with the resolution details. I'm sure that could help someone. It looks like you have a newer Human Machine Interface (C362) than what I have (HMI:VC.3.5.D) but they seem to have downgraded your main firmware slightly from 6.0.2.2 to 6.0.2.0. When I asked them for an upgrade I mentioned that I was having trouble getting the inverter to talk to the batteries in Lithium mode so I have it setup to use voltages. Maybe that is why they supplied version 6.0.2.2. Although I see in a separate thread that my troubles may be related to faulty cables. Btw in my earlier reply I did not mean that your batteries were faulty but that the inverter may have had the wrong settings for the battery stored in its firmware and thus did not want to charge them. As it turns out it seems that it was not so much the settings in the firmware but the firmware code that uses those settings.

Lucky you, Deye did not seem inclined to send me any files or guides. Maybe I should have been more demanding or disconnected it from the wifi. 😄 I did get them to also update the wireless dongle remotely. Logger / Wireless Dongle: Version Information Module Version No:LSW3_15_FFFF_1.0.86D Extended System Version:V1.1.00.0F This was on 23 Feb 2023 and the wireless logger dongle has been working well to date.

Wow thank you, that is a rather comprehensive answer! Replacing the cables with straight wired (patch) network cables makes sense as the wiring of the original cables appeared to be straight. I'll give it a go sometime and report back once I have done so.

Why are you asking technical support questions about battery charging problems in a thread about firmware versions? Your request for help is less likely to be seen here and you are pulling this thread off-topic for other people who are looking for firmware versions. Don't do that guy, start a new thread! P.S. All the problems you have mentioned seem to relate to batteries. Check your battery settings in the inverter, if the voltages are wrong then that could explain why your inverter has been complaining about DC Low Voltage for more than a year.

Thanks but that was pretty obvious based on the large bright yellow labels on the each of the data cables... 😛 I seem to vaguely recall that the data cable is going through some conduit into the inverter. I'll have to take the cover off the inverter to double check that end. The visible label on the other end of the cable plugged into the master battery just says battery. I just tried (again) to set the mode to Lithium and got a F58 BMS communication fault. This is the same fault I got when the system was installed six plus months back. The setup has been working flawlessly as backup power since then so this has been a low priority. However it would be nice to get the inverter talking to BMS.

@MAS Did you come right? If so what settings did you have to use? I set Battery Mode to "Use Batt %" instead of "Lithium" as a work around to the same issue that you faced. I would be interested to hear what is the way to get the A48100 batteries working with the Deye 8KW over CAN.

How do I relate daily power usage to required battery size
8KW Deye inverter does not blink when the vacuum cleaner, iron, washing machine, kettle, coffee machine or dishwasher are used. Note the *or*, it would be a bit mental to be running all of those at the exact same time. Your battery may be the limiting factor for your inverter. A 100Ah battery at 1C is 100A multiplied by 51.2V yields 5kW. At 0.5C the current drops to 50A * 51.2V yielding 2.5kW. Your baseline usage should to be well under 1kW. My daily is around 8kWh and the baseline usage with lights, music, computer and a fridge kicking on is about 350W, fridge stops and it'll drop back to 250W, without the desktop talking more like 150W. There are spikes up to about 2KW from the appliances mentioned above.

I don't have release notes and the only other way to figure out what visible changes took place is to look very carefully at two different versions and note the differences. If anyone every has a specific "XYZ" problem when running one version of the firmware that is then resolved when Deye support updates their inverter to a newer version containing the fix then they would be able to report that the new version contains fix for "XYZ" version. I would recommend asking politely for a copy of the release notes. However, as someone who has compiled release notes, not everything that gets changed makes it into the release notes. Also developers seem to not enjoy writing release notes. 😄

My system is underperforming (well, I think it is)
Please see the screenshot for your East facing panels with 20 degree slope are estimated to produce 544kWh for the month of July which works out to 17.5kWh per day. I would have to look up the angle of the sun that would make the sunlight rays hit your 20 degree panels perpendicularly to roughly figure out when they would reach peak hourly output. You can look this up but it is going to be between sunrise and midday. Then again panels are comparatively cheap when compared to inverters and batteries so maybe you actually want the early morning power from the East facing panels for your household consumption and battery charging. This depends very much on what you need. Using -180 (North as this is a European calculator) and 30 degree sloop for your North facing panels and the estimate for July is 837kWh. That is quite the difference in output in my book...

In the screenshot that I posted earlier I used a slope of 34 degrees with North facing (check the azimuth) panels. If that was changed to say 24 degrees then it would favour summer production at the expense of winter. The reason for this is that sun is further south in summer (more directly overhead) and further north in winter (lower on the horizon). With north facing panels, the steeper the slope, the more they are pointing north and the shallower the slope the less they are pointing North. Cloud cover and day length are also factors but I prefer isolate one variable at a time to understand its affect on the outcome. Then add up all the affects and we get the total outcome.

Heh, so what angle are you panels at? The steeper (i.e., more vertical less horizontal) the angle when they pointed north, the more they'll produce in winter at the expense of reduced production in summer. While you are at it include the azimuth (hopefully it is rather close to north and failing that, north-north-east or north-nort-west). My entire point is that they are multiple variables involved here. Unless we state all the variables then we can not compare results or estimates.

To me your testing with different numbers of panels seems quite conclusive, i.e., you reach 4KW and then add more panels and are still at 4KW. The suspiciously round and consistent number of 4KW which just happens to be the correct limit for the other smaller model would convince me if I were to receive your email. Unfortunately you are probably fighting a language barrier. I am not sure if using more numbers or pictures in your communication with them would help improve understanding but it is worth a shot.

Oh dear this seems like a firmware bug to me. I suspect the firmware developer copied the setting from the smaller inverter into the firmware for the larger inverter. If you can not downgrade to an older version or upgrade to a newer version to change the limit back to 6KW then I would suggest logging a support ticket with the inverter manufacturer detailing the tests that you have been doing so that they can look at it and fix it.

Ah thank you. That thread, which I had not seen, has all the information I was seeking. I have read the other thread. To me it screams that someone at the manufacturer introduced a bug into the newer version for the firmware that you are running. I suspect they copied the setting of 4KW from the smaller inverter (as per the manual page you posted) and applied it to the firmware for the larger inverter that you have. 4KW is just too consistent of a limit for it to be a hardware failure. I am not sure if you can downgrade to an older firmware version or if you can upgrade to a newer version that has the bug fixed. If you are running the very latest firmware then you will have to log a bug via a support call with the manufacturer explaining all the tests that you performed with the different number of panels.

Well good on getting your co-ordinates in there. I do not understand what you are trying to say as the azimuth of your roof makes a huge difference to how much sun the panels mounted to it will be able to produce. In our southern hemisphere north FACING panels will help optimise the amount of light falling on the panels. Especially in winter when the sun appears to be further north compared to summer when it is more directly overhead. Ja but please post a screenshot showing the settings that you used. There are multiple factors, e.g., roof slope, that will make a huge difference to the production figures.

If you keep changing the number of panels and the power remains capped at the same 4KW then that strongly suggest that it is not the panels limiting the power... What is your inverter make and model? What is the capacity of its MPPT?

Yes it seems that inverter does not include the usage on the non-essential circuits as measured by the CT other than on the Grid screen. That being said I believe it is possible to direct surplus solar power (essential load met and batteries charged) to the non-essential home load that is on the same side of the CT as the inverter. I do not have solar panels yet so this is a bit theoretical to me at this point. What do you mean by "achieve total home usage"? Do you mean "show total home usage" or do you mean "supply total home usage with your solar" or something else? If you want to see if your power bill is dropping then check your bill... 😄 Bear in mind that LD is what flows through the inverter. As I understand it the inverter has a built in CT which measures this. I think this partly explains why Solarman and the LCD do not show the values measured by the (external to the inverter) CT. Btw it may well be possible for Deye to implement a feature to track (measured and retain) the grid usage as measured by the CT. One reason they may not be doing this as the CT can be omitted or placed in different places depending on the mode of operation. You may want to politely request this feature if it is possible. If not and you really want to measure your usage from the grid you get another energy meter and hook its CT clamp over the main Line wire from Eskom.

No mystery as you are comparing different units. BUY Today = 3.2 KWH i.e. Kilo-Watt Hours CT is measuring power at 3.2 KilloWatt. One (KWH) encompasses the time dimension, i.e., drawing a 1000 (kilo) Watts for one hour (or 500W for 2 hours, 2000W for 30 minutes, and so on, while the other (KW) is an instantaneous measurement, e.g., 1000 Watts for a second, minute, or however long the power is being drawn by whatever appliance. And yes you can derive KWH from KW if you measure constantly and then add up all those little peaks and troughs in usage and divide or multiple to convert the measurement time into hours. Area under the graph and all that.

My understanding is that LD is Load connected to the inverter. Aka Essential Load. CT is showing the draw from the grid. This is useful if you have surplus solar power as you can then feed the non-essential load without feeding into the grid.

If you have it connected to the internet via your wifi then you can email Deye support with your serial number and request a firmware upgrade.
