Pv panels to heat up electric geysers
Hi . Just wondering if any one is using pv panels connect directly to the electric geyser . I read at sometime some were that they use 2 250w 40v panels connect in series and work great at getting the geyser up to temp through the day . We just 2 in the house and using gas water warmer and run the house from an 3 kw inverter with 2050w panels and 100ah lithium and don't need anything bigger but would be an saving if we can use the sun to heat the electric geyser on sunny days and use gas warmer an rainy days.

Is this normal?
The deye inverter are also very quiet but a little more expensive than 20k. It does have a fan but internal so you can't hear it .

check out (Firmware - Growatt 5000es ) in the inverter posts as they say the newer software version has fan control so the fan speed is regulated , it's worth checking that post out

Growatt 5000es battery drain at night
The thing is we don't want to charge the battery from the grid as it cost more in units to keep the battery toped up . The 6 550w solar panel are there for that purpose . Now what we have observed today . The the battery were toped up from solar today from last night load shedding but ran on grid power the day . When pv droped to 0 Wats the the drain on the battery was 0 Wats but after 2 hours load shedding the inverter now continues draining from the battery of about 31wats . So before it was running from grid but after load shedding it runs from battery now constantly draining on the battery and can calculate it will drain at least 10% of the battery tonight with 20% cut of this leaving really only 70% battery for load shedding . It looks more like to me if it's been running on grid the day charging battery from solar in the evening the inverter will continue being powered from the grid but ones it switched to battery mode in the evening for load shedding after load shedding the inverter will continue to be powered from the battery draining the battery over night

Growatt 5000es battery drain at night
Setting is li protocol but inverter won't wait for battery to be 100% before it it start an discharge, the battery can be 20% and it will drain the battery to 10% over night and only start charging wonts the sun is up as setting is OSO so solar is the only charge source . So basically what you saying in this case is li protocol is not going to work for us as the battery discharges around 10% through the night and only way around this is to use the use setting manually setting up the inverter with inaccurate lithium soc %

Growatt 5000es battery drain at night
Okay but then is this just an growatt issue or are there othere inverter that suffer from this issue . We have 2 different make inverter running on my property in the 2 houses and both different makes are setup similar to the growatt and at night nether has battery drain through the night indicating they powered from grid when in utility mode and not constantly from battery

Growatt 5000es battery drain at night
I helped a friend install and setup the growatt 5000 Inverter and 5.5 Hubble battery . We set it up on sbu and OSO so at night the battery rest so only using solar to charge batterys . But notice after setting up the shine phone app that there's a constant 31w draw over night on the battery and there's an % drop on the lithium over night . Any one found the same or is this inverter faulty .

Growat 5000es Hubble 5.5 charge problem
Thanks sound like Hubble is not as perfect as they say it is . Looks like my friend is stuck with constantly changing setting every time this Hubble decides to go out of calibration . Guess this is the main reason why I went for a more simple cheaper setup

Growat 5000es Hubble 5.5 charge problem
Yes it's 100amps and can not be change on li setting . After a few phone calls we got advice on how to fix the issue . We were told that for some or othere reason the BMS stops the charging in this case at 77% so the only way to fix this it to change setting to use and set bulk and float to 53.6 charge the lithium up to 100% then set the setting back to li 52 protocol . This so far has fix the problems . Thanks so far for the help

Growat 5000es Hubble 5.5 charge problem
If I remember right 2 was 40amp but we cant set 19 and 20 as 05 battery type is set to li and protocol 52 so proventing us from doing setting on 19 and 20

Growat 5000es Hubble 5.5 charge problem
A friend has this setup problem . The growat only charges the lithium to 77% 53.3v not more and the last charge light on the lithium does not light up also indicating the lithium is not charged to full . We set the charge from solar and utility at the same time . Under battery we used lith and 52 protocol . Any advice will be appreciated

GROWATT 3kva with Esener 25.6v
I tested 4 hours load shedding last night but it was in 2 intervals. I had the fridge , and fans running . I only charge from solar so I pulled the fuzes so I can then check the volts in the morning . Volts was 26.4 and according to the chart I use that's 70% so 30% used but the question now is how accurate is this chart so decided to connect my radio controlled wat meter between lithium and inverter and test the amp hours and wats charged. Set bulk to 28v and float to 27.3v and 30amp charge . It took about 25minute to reach 28v but took about 3 hours for the amps to drop down to 1amp at 27.3v and anothere hour for the amps to drop to 0.15amps . And the surprising part 30.910ah 817.5w charge that making as close as it's going to get to 70% soc the chart indicated

GROWATT 3kva with Esener 25.6v
Chased the float charge up to 28v for the day . Pv input volts settled at 18wats . At rest lithium settles after about hour at 27.11 . Under 15 amp load volts settled at 26.65v Now wondering about balance volts on this lithium BMS as some have reported the cells going out of balance over time at 27v float on othere makes of lithium and they have to chase float up to 28v for the BMS to balance as some states BMS only starts balancing anything from 27.6 v and it does not take an hour to balance it can take days or even weeks as the BMS balances with very small currants . The problem with this lithium is there no ports to monitor the cells and opening the box will damage the no tamper sticker voiding the warranty so unless someone has more info on balancing volts and installed BMS we won't know if 27v float is going to do more damage due to unbalanced volts over time and best is then 28v for balancing .

GROWATT 3kva with Esener 25.6v
Here some reading on the 26.5 battery hope this helps https://powerforum.co.za/ Im still stay 30amp Charge User setting Decided to change bulk 28.5 Float 27.3 Tested today float 27.5 , pv input wats settled 17wat , lithium at rest settled at 26.9 but when under 14 amp load it settled at 26.4 . Tested also 27v float , pv input wats Check this out a very interesting volts test

Here some reading on the 26.5 battery hope this helps Axpert settings for LiFePO4 https://powerforum.co.za/topic/4614-axpert-settings-for-lifepo4/ Im still stay 30amp Charge User setting Decided to change bulk 28.5 Float 27.3 Tested today float 27.5 , pv input wats settled 17wat , lithium at rest settled at 26.9 but when under 14 amp load it settled at 26.4 . Tested also 27v float , pv input wats settle at 7wats , at rest lithium settled 26.8 but under 14amp load it settled at 26.1 Will test tomorrow 28v float and see what is does but if it still settles at 26.9 then will stay with 27.3 float

GROWATT 3kva with Esener 25.6v
I assume but correct me if I'm wrong but this esener is an 8 cell so as long as the volts don't exceed 3.65 per cell all should be okay this making max volts 29.2 . Will test the 27v float and see how long the battery absorbs before the wats drop to about 13wats from pv charging

GROWATT 3kva with Esener 25.6v
Hi . I decide ofter a bit of confusion to take a chance with my 4 year +old inverter and move from gel to lithium last week and bought the esener 25.6 . My inverter setting are similar to yours and after a solid week of testing different setting I found the sweet spot so hope these setting can help . 2) max charge to 30 amps 5 ) battery type if you use use then you can set up bulk and float volts 11) 30 amps 19) 28.8 bulk allowing for slite imbalance in cells not for one cell to over volt . 20) 27.2 to 27.5v float I set at 27.3v 21) 23.5 cut of volts . I have noticed that float charging between 27.2 to 27.5 my setting 27.3 now after the lithium absorbing for hour or two the pv wats slowly settle down around 13wats when there's no load on the inverter and with no charge on the lithium it settles around 26.8 which is 100% for this battery . I set the cut off volts at 23.5 as when this lithium is at 95amp to 100a load normally in the evening with fridge TV light and we use the kettle or microwave the lithium settles at 24v so setting cutoff any higher than 23.5 will make the inverter shut down after a long run with microwave. They say BMS starts balancing at around 29v so decided to set charging at 30 amps so the lithium charges a bit slower allowing the BMS chance to balance the cells at around 28.8v but some say the BMS only balances wonts the amps start dropping and that only really happens then in float charge after an hour or 2 I charge only using solar so through the night the lithium settles and did notice with the first day or two the volts settled at about 26.6v but now after a week the volts now settle in the evening at 26.8v so can only guess the battery is now better balance so looks like these setting are working

Return to charge question ❓
My setup Program 01. Sol 12. Max at 25.5 Back to grid 16. OSO 4Battery gel 2s 2p 200ah 24v So I run solar in the day and Eskom at night and use solar to charge battery . 25.5 switch over to grid power works well with gel as it leave at least 5 hours run time at night for load shedding and solar to charge in the day making the setup save electricity as well Here's the thing with lithium the switch over to grid is max setting 25.5 this on lithium will run the lithium to 15% every night reducing its life and leaving no energy in reserve for load shedding . Shops say I can use lithium on these inverter so then if I understand right it then only makes these inverter a load shedding solution only and can't be used as I want to use it to run on solar through the day to save on electricity as well . So the reality is now why buy a 3 or 5 kw inverter with setting 12 max 25.5v that can only be used as a load shedding solution on lithium . On gel it can be set 01 to sol saving you electricity through the day but good gel battery cost around 3k so 4 gel R12k every 3 to 4 years this making it to expensive as what you save on electricity you spend on gell So the best loading shedding solution will be an cheap 1kw inverter on 2 off 12v gel battery and 1 solar panel to top up gel just to run your lights,TV and internet . Or go grid tie inverter witch is to expensive for most My issue is that setting 12 max25.5 on lithium battery on setting 01 sol or sub .

Return to charge question ❓
Thanks so long but it's looking more and more like I will need to replace this inverter if I want go the lithium path and use sol or sbu modes . All solar shops say I can use lithium on my inverter but never have they said you then limited to how you can use and setup the inverter . Looks like using lithium on such an inverter only then makes it an load shedding inverter and can only be set on utl as sol and sbu modes will drain the lithium to flat every day leaving nothing left for load shedding and reducing the lithium life . Any one with ideas on how to save me having to buy new gel bats as replacing my inverter just to go lithium going to be to costly for me

Return to charge question ❓
- Return to charge question ❓
I have a 5 year old MKS 2 3kw inverter and been using it on sol setting so solar in the day and Eskom at night . Want to move to lithium as my gel battery are now old . Switch over to charge mode or utility mode max volts are 25.5 and no lithium setting old user . So correct me if I'm wrong but for gel 25.5 works but with lithium at 25.5 the lithium battery is then basically flat leaving no charge for load shedding later in the night or do I understand this wrong Don't want have to buy a new inverter that has lithium setting so your help would be appreciated .- Growat 5000es protocol setting 36 hubble battery
Installed the growatt 5000 but what protocol on 36 must I set in to communicate to the Hubble 5.5 kw lithium battery and must I switch dip switch 1 to on on the Hubble battery . Help would be appreciated- Growat 5000es protocol setting 36 hubble battery
