Mounting panels
House was built in about 1978 but carport erected later but will try and double check - I would guess it is not asbestos. Are the hanger bolts rust proof?

Mounting panels
Wanting to mount panels on my flat car port roof - old style corrugated asbestos type. Presume these would not be mounted flat but upright at an angle. What best to use for mounting. Cost per panel? I guess aluminium as we are at the coast. The car port roof has a slight drop from right to left to allow for water run off. Faces North West.

Small-scale embedded generation in SA - Unworkable regulations
It is different of course but rather reminds me of the shambles surrounding digital TV deadlines! (And of course the NHI still to come......) We have so many talented technical people in SA and yet implementation is such a problem.

Small-scale embedded generation in SA - Unworkable regulations
Small-scale embedded generation in SA - Unworkable regulations Another example is now raising its ugly head. It comes in the form of the unworkable DoE, Nersa and Eskom policies, regulations, procedures and implementation of distributed small-scale embedded generation (SSEG) in South Africa. https://www.moneyweb.co.za/moneyweb-opinion/soapbox/nero-fiddles-while-the-prospect-of-load-shedding-continues/

Also on Cape Town's regulations on breakers - 80A if one goes above 3.4KW I was told by someone (Not CapeTown) that it is fine to to use 60A with a 4.6KW inverter - Is this safe - Advice please!

Thanks! “the guy presenting the course disagrees with the additional isolation” What course was this?

I have only seen the CoCT list where is the NRS 097 list?

Goodwe
I saw this posted on the web today: Can anyone confirm? The electrical engineer helping me has a good communication channel with the CoCT and they finally confirmed that the expensive disconnect switch is not required where the inverter can perform that function (cutting power on the grid connection when the grid goes down). There's some good news at least. (Previously The problem is not the Goodwe specifically, but any inverter producing more than 3.5 kW. You will need to upgrade municipal feed to 80 A which the CoCT quotes R7200. And you will need a R8000 disconnect switch, irrespective of the brand and functionality of the inverter.)

Solis 3k-5k Hybrids
I see the spec sheet says Lithium batteries - is this only or are other batteries compatible. Someone said the specs are good but did note it only apparently has 3kw output on battery mode. The bigger unit can run 5kw load on AC, but only 3kw in battery mode??

Has anyone applied to Eskom for permission
Thanks! From my research it seems everyone outside of Cape Town is heavily unregulated and is just installing.... Maybe this is a bad thing for grid stability if such a thing still exists! My installer is doing a 100KW system for a plant down the coast - amazing to see how solar is really taking off.... Saw a post the other day which forecast that the middle class will provide their own energy sources with the poorer sections using Eskom - rather like we use couriers and others use the Post Office.

Who is stocking? Any idea of pricing?

Has anyone applied to Eskom for permission
I see that Cape Town requires one to apply to Eskom for permission to link to the grid - if one resides in Cape Town but is in an Eskom area. My understanding is that Eskom has not yet finalised its regulations for connecting solar to the grid?? I wonder about Eskom areas outside of Cape Town ?

PJJ - Thanks we need more info like this. Any more tips for an easy install from what you learnt in your first install?
