  1. Yes the issue is the geyser on the inverter, which i agree. I did look at the option you have…. of having the geyser controller on its on array, however, given that our needs have grown, I looked at perhaps just increasing the inverter capacity and leaving the geyser as is. Well at least I think that would suit be better but I could be wrong.
  2. Thanks for the detailed feedback. If adding a second inverter means it has to be the exact same model and firmware version to operate in parallel, then it sounds like that's not really a viable option. I do need the ability to feed excess PV power to my non-essential loads, my goal is to maximise solar usage rather than leaving generation unused. Noted. It makes sense to choose the inverter first and then design the PV array around its capabilities, while also considering the available roof space. I agree with reserving the battery for night-time use. At 4:00 am my battery is typically still at around 76% SOC. Based on that, I can probably push it out to 6:00 am, or even later. Just to add my current system provides 50% - 55% of usage...but I always have to ensure that whilst the geyser is heating we can only use one other heavy appliance. The house in general with anything else on runs on 500w. Regarding your recommendation of two 6 kW units instead of a single 12 kW unit, I have a few questions. If I go that route, would I need to split my house wiring between the two inverters and decide in advance which circuits or appliances are connected to each one? Or do the two inverters communicate and function as a single system with unified monitoring and management? My concern is having to manage two separate systems or monitor two different sets of data. At the moment, my entire house is connected to the essential loads output, so I manually manage what runs at any given time. Ideally, I'd like to move away from that and have a system that manages everything more intelligently. I've had my Goodwe for eight years now, and it has been very reliable. It's been quiet, dependable and has never given me any issues, so naturally I'm inclined to stick with what I know. That's why I was asking whether the Goodwe 12 kW would still be a good option today, or whether the Solis S6 Pro has significantly surpassed both Goodwe and Sunsynk in terms of features, performance and long-term value. When I originally installed the Goodwe, my priorities were reliability during load shedding and reducing my electricity costs. Since then, my kids have grown, our household demand has increased considerably and our needs have changed. This will probably be the last major upgrade I make and God willing, I'd like it to last the next 20 years. My priority is a system that is reliable, easy to manage, and capable of running the house without me constantly checking settings or manually managing loads.
  3. Hi everyone. I'm looking for some advice on upgrading my solar system and would really appreciate your recommendations. My current setup is: • 5kW GoodWe inverter • 19 × 330W solar panels (6.27kW total) • 10kWh Pylontech battery The 5kW inverter is my limitation. My goal is to be able to run appliances like the dishwasher, inverter air conditioners, kettle, 2kW geyser, washing machine and iron at the same time during the day without constantly having to manually manage loads or being restricted. I also want to maximise my solar usage and minimise my reliance on the grid. I'm considering: • Adding another 10 × 620W bifacial panels. • Upgrading to a 10-12kW inverter. My questions are: 1. Is it better to keep my existing 5kW GoodWe and add a second inverter, or replace it with a single larger inverter? 2. Is GoodWe still one of the best options, or should I be looking at brands like Deye, Sunsynk, Victron, Huawei or something else? Price is a factor 3. Would adding another 10 × 620W bifacial panels be the right move, and what inverter size would you recommend for this setup? 4. I currently have a 10kWh Pylontech battery. What is the optimal battery strategy? Should I mainly reserve it for night-time use, or should I allow it to discharge during the day whenever PV can't fully meet demand to avoid importing from the grid? 5. At the moment, I only use the battery between 10:00pm and 4:00am. From sunset until 10:00pm I use grid power, and again from 4:00am until the PV starts producing in the morning. Is this the most efficient way to operate the battery, or would I save more by using the battery differently during the day and evening? My objective is to maximise self-consumption from solar, minimise grid usage, and still preserve battery life. I'd really appreciate any recommendations or experiences from people who have upgraded similar systems. Thanks!
  4. Hi I have had 4 x 2.4kw pylontech batteries approved for replacement, had them installed in Jan 2019. They are crediting me as they don't have stock of the 2.4kw. After reading up on the issues....wondering is there a better battery brand rather than going with pylontech again?

  6. Hi please assist me in this regards i.e having a tenant set-up....really baffled what is wrong with my set-up: I have a goodwe inverter and pylon batteries for night use. I recently rented out my cottage and had the electrician install a prepaid meter that essentially runs off my mains. The issue I have picked up now is that the cottage is being supplied from my battery at night. The funny thing though is, when there is load shedding the cottage has no power and does not utilise my battery. It only utilises my battery when there is Grid power. Can anybody advise what could be wrong wit my set up? Pretty please.....my battery is now drained by 10pm because the tenant is using a heater:(
  7. Hi Please advise... I bought a 20w eurolux insect killer and when I switch it on it trips my Earth leakage. I thought the appliance was faulty so I returned it and tested another one at the store. When I switched it on, it tripped again.... What could possibly be the problem?

I should stated upfront that I lack technical jargon and knowledge on all levels lolz Fuenkli....so essentially what I asked the electrician to do was put on all my loads supply onto the back up and hence the tripping? Isn't there another "load" that I can use so that I have full use of geyser and pool pump during outages? We have regular outages lasting 12 hours at a time....so I cringe when I know I have the power but cannot use it!!! Please advise in laymans terms what I need to have done to prevent my tripping going foward. Is moving my loads back to essential and non essential my only option or is there some other way?
  9. Hi Guys Please assist. I have a Goodwe 5KVA inverter and had initially set up the system on 2 loads i.e essential and non essential with 12 panels. I subsequently installed another 7 panels and with the excess power thought I would not be in a situation where during load shedding i would need to prioritise my loads. By this I mean I could still run my geyser and pool pump, but be wary of not exceeding 5kw. I know the inverter is only capable of supplying a max of 5kw. The system was fine, only draw back was that I had power but with load shedding or being off grid I couldn't heat my geyser or run the pool pump. Seemed like such a big waste not to use the power when I could. Smart idea - I then called an electrician and asked him to change the DB set-up to put all the loads in one...i.e no essential and non essential. The problem: Now I have this issue: My 2kw geyser is on, pool pump of 1kw and the normal house essentials comes to a total of 3400kw. The minute I put the kettle/hairdryer or anything that pushes the total kw to over 5, the system trips. Please advise me on what the issue is: Is the system suppose to be strictly on essential and non-essential loads? Is there a problem with perhaps the way the electrician has wired it? I would really appreciate advice as its driving me crazy switching of geyser if I need to use hairdryer etc.

  11. Hi Please can i get advise. I installed 12 x 330w panels on my roof and subsequently found that partial shading occurs by 4pm in winter and now I would like to have the panels moved totally out of the shade and have an additional 6 more panels added. What would be reasonable "re-installation" costs? Either per day or per job?
  12. Gosh i was racking my brains with this one earlier this year.....that was exactly how I wanted my Goodwe system to work. Be powered from PV during the day and not from battery at night....so I guess there is no fix apart from making sure that you have your geyser off:(

  16. 9.6 battery fully charged for night use is at 70% DOD, I use about 60% by 6am, try not to use toaster and kettle prior to 6am. There is a further 20% allocated for load shedding, which as of yet I have not used...as the PV and batteries are sufficient to cover me. Come to think of it, I cant think of when that 20% will come into use? Would this be a possible situation: at 6am i have used my 70% battery, it is extremely cloudy so no PV input and then eskom load sheds? 10% not in use at all Does this sound about okay?

Okay understood....thank you to all....I have gained so much more than I thought😣 Correct me if I am wrong: In order for the system to be correctly wired: Essential and non essential loads both need to connected to PV and grid. this is so that excess power can be diverted to the non essential loads like geyser, aircon, oven etc If there is not enough power for say aircon, then it should start pulling from the grid and not the battery My geyser needs to move onto the non-essential load on the DB, this will then eliminate the geyser pulling power from the battery? The PV will run the house needs and simultaneously charge the battery in order to minimize grid use Example on a cloudy day, there is enough power to supply the house, but barely to charge the battery - would this affect the performance of the battery in the long run. What I mean is, does the battery need to be charged to 100% everyday? It is currently set up for night use at 70% DOD, I have a 20% back up for load shedding. what takes preference battery charge or running currents needs first? I will look at getting a plumber to change to a 2kw PTC element for the geyser, sounds like a cheaper solution rather than adding a solar geyser, then set timer My panels are north facing, Its mid day and the sun is also shining on the south side, would it be wise to add additional panels here? I added PV panels and solar pool panels and now have no more space on the north facing side. If my inverter is 5KW and I already have 3.96 array, does this mean that I can only add a max of an additional 4 panels (using a 330w)? Lastly and apologies for so many questions.......what is the average persons night use when everyone is asleep? I have the usual, fridge, chest freezer, outside lights x2 (all led), electric fence, alarm. I see it fluctuates but on average 400-500w, does this sound correct?
  18. so as it stands, please correct me...... it is better that when PV power is not enough during the day for essentials, it pulls from the battery. Even though I may get to a situation where the battery is not fully changed for night use?

  23. My DB is spilt in 2, essential and non essential like geyser, pool pump, aircon and oven. I thought that only essentials would fall on back up for night use. But now I see the geyser is on the battery back up. As you suggested, move the geyser feed to the other phase so I can use excess solar....can this be done without using the battery? I am told this can't be done without rewiring and putting another DB etc.
  24. Thank you Gabriel, I have mentioned what system I have right now hybrid 5kw goodwe, 3.96 solar and 9.6 pylon. I don't have additional cash right now to change to solar geyser, however I want to know what I can do to minimise the use of the grid to power my electric geyser😬
