  2. Aah OK, I thought there was a special trick. I have already enabled ESS and have it set to keep batteries charged while waiting for my panels. Will play with it some more when panels are installed. Thanks!
  3. How did you sort it? I have the same setup, MP2 with ET112 meter and am about to add panels with a 150/45 MPPT so in case I run into the same issue. Thnx.
  4. Just be careful with panels, what you get today, you will not get tomorrow. Panels are changing all the time with new spec panels coming out almost every day. You will be lucky to get the same panels in 6 months, never mind 2 years or longer down the line.
  5. There is no cost to the SSEG application itself, however, the requirements to complete the SSEG include engineer approvals, diagrams, component specs, etc. which require time and effort. Some installers may not have the capacity or inclination to do this on behalf of the client. At the end of the day the onus is on the client to ensure that it is done and will cost the client no matter who does it.
  6. Just about anywhere in CT, Lighting Warehouse, Eagle Lighting, even Builders. I've found that the Eurolux ones are reasonable quality. When running off inverter, some of the cheaper no-name brands tend to dip a bit for a millisecond or so when the fridge or any other high draw appliance kicks. Apparently to do with the inferior quality capacitors that they have inside them.
  7. This....as soon as possible!!! LED's are the way to go, I've replaced every globe in the house with LED, biggest draw from the largest is 9w, most of the others pull 3 or 5w, halogen's are minimum 50w some even more.
  8. Agree with @Steve87 and split the circuits. I wouldn't add the oven/stove circuit to the inverter, keep that on non-essential and only run when you have Eskom power... it will kill your battery and probably render prevent you from using much else while it is running. Another consideration is the passthrough capabilities of the Kodak. With some inverters, like Victron, you carry on as normal when you have Eskom power, with others, some of the Axpert types (not sure where Kodak fits into this continuum) you are permanently limited to your inverter capacity once you wire it in to your circuits, i.e. you always need to balance what you use so as not to exceed your inverter capacity (in your case 3KVa).
  9. @SPDreyer Sorry bud, it all went with the Multiplus as a package, all sold.
  10. , I offered them as an incentive to entice someone to take the whole setup, so for now they are reserved for that purpose. If I end up selling the individual items separately then we can talk, I will keep you posted.

    Batteries

There are a number of reasons why this may be happening, overcharging, undercharging, discharging too deeply, charging too fast, excessive temperature, etc. One of the primary reasons for premature LA battery failure currently is simply because of the present load shedding schedule. Lead acid (GEL and AGM are categorised as lead acid) need 6-8 hours to charge correctly. If your batteries do not get fully charged before the next load shed kicks in the are going to start the next period not fully charged and deplete further and lower than the previous period. With load shedding, this cycle will just continue and eventually damage your battery. So as in the examples above, with a fully charged battery bank you have 1200Wh available. But say your bank only charges to 90% before the next load shedding starts, you now only have 1080Wh to safely use... and so it goes. A few weeks of stage 4, 5, and 6 of load shedding and your batteries are in trouble, they are never getting a full charge and they starting to drop below the theoretical 50% DoD. As little as 1 or 2 deep discharges can easily do permanent damage to your batteries. That's the beauty of lithium's, aside from the deeper discharge they can handle without damage, they can also be recharged a lot faster. A decent 12V 100Ahr lithium can accept a charge of up to 50A so a battery discharged to 80% DoD can be recharge to 100% within a couple of hours.

  19. Yes it is required for the Saldanha Bay Municipal district, i.e. Saldanha, Vredenburg, Langebaan, Hopefield, Paternoster, etc. Their requirements are modelled on CoCT regs. Let me know your e-mail address and I'll forward you the pack that I got from their HOD Electrical.
  20. Yes, standard multiplug serves its purpose during normal power, it will be fine with a backup solution.
