Battery status and monitoring

Featured Replies

Manie had the need to see what all his batteries are doing from a voltage point of view. Riaan then build a device to do that. Riaan gave us the permission to build this device and make it available as an add on to all AICC pi users. We are still plying around with some options but if users want it we will make it available. we will be able to monitor 4 or 8 batteries. we will be able to track the temperature of each battery as well at some stage.

Please give me also some feedback on how the software is running. I dont see feedback on how the software is runnning.

I started this project a while back and @Cobus was the firts one to use the pi version. I shared the source with Jaco and he added his part (procedure) for the Infini. We started to work together and started to add a lot to the application and named it AICC pi. Jaco added mqtt to the project and later i developed the desktop application and added the animation that Jaco developed for his software AICC windows (i was not part of that. All Jaco's work)

Please give me feedback on both the software so that i can decide if it is worth to continue developing and not waist my time working long nights on something that i think as a developer is awesome.

Please if its not for you. Let me know so i can stop developing and spending time on this 2 applications

Jaco this device to monitor batteries will be very useful and I believe you mentioned a price of R1500 which sounds fair. I will have 16 x 6V batteries next week so what then? Obviously there has to be a limit to the number of batteries but no harm in asking I guess.

Manie I sincerely hope you continue developing the Remote Dashboard. It is very useful in monitoring the solar installation and an ongoing source of facination. I unfortunately have a problem that few values are displayed on the graphic. This is a recent development and I can't remember when it started. Any suggestions what I should do to fix it. I did also post the question in the support thread so apologies for the duplication. My RPi 3 is now connected to the Axpert with a USB cable and a CAT5 cable to my home LAN.

I just remembered that when looking at AICC-Pi yesterday, I wished it also displayed the Axpert details like the Windows version does. We live on the first floor of the house and every time I need to know something about the Axperts, it is a trip down the stairs to the ground floor garage where the inverters are. That's OK, it is the walk back up that becomes tedious.

Please let me know what values you want to see. Do you want to see them on the pi app or on the desktop app.

Please indicate what you like to display on the graph. Also do you want it on the desktop app or the pi itself? We did ontly add 4 charts on the desktop , because the charting use a lot of cpu power and we want the application to be stable. Please remember that you can't compare the raspberry pi to a pc. A pc will always won!

Please indicate what your screen resolution is. I make it smaller to fit your screen.

The Windows AICC has a tab "Inverter Detail" which I thought might be useful to have again. It does not really matter whether it is on the Remote Dashboard (RD) or the RPi.

I am not looking for extra detail on the RD, what is there is just great. Problem is that at the moment the only values that are displayed is Volt and Amp of the panels, voltage to the house, consumed amps of the battery and number of Axperts (2). All the other values are zero. I have sent you a PM for Teamviewer login if you want to take a look. My screen resolution is 1280x1024, still an old 4:3 screen size.

What we did was to show not only the device name, but also the model number, firmware and serial numbers.

If the device cannot give it, user can pre-load it for their devices.

I too got tired of having to go and check or open covers.

The Remote Dashboard now works a treat after Manie's modifications. The graphic display irrefutably proves the point of " A Picture Is A Thousand Words". Those who have it will be thrilled with the latest release. To those who don't I can only say: Why not. You don't know what you are missing. I don't have shares in Jaco and Manie's venture but cannot be other than enthusiastic about something that works for me  and should for other Axpert and Infini users too. AICC and the Remote Dashboard are the only products for monitoring my Axperts that I have experience of and there may be others like SolWEB that was discussed on the forum. One thing is for sure, by comparison WatchPower is not one. At best a toy, but that's just my opinion.

Here is Remote Dashboard running on my Ubuntu PC. I used CrossoverLinux to create a shortcut, bottom one of the righthand row of icons, on the desktop. If you don't want to spend money, it runs equally well with a command in a terminal: "wine MQTT*.exe" from the folder where the exe file is, of course without the quotation marks (for the Linux noobs).

Well done. Edward. I am so amazed by you. Most 78 year old people would not even know how to spell Linux. I am so inspired by you. Well done again.

Thanks Jaco. My daughter says "Determination leads to success". Guess she has a point. I got fed up with Windows several years ago and took the plunge to Ubuntu and have not looked back. So all I can say is that you have probably many more years to go doing software and other technical stuff than you may have thought. Makes life interesting.

Plonky that is not C# btw lol

OK so some exciting news on the development of the battery monitor. The battery monitor will be able to do everything the BMV does plus monitor 4 , 8, or 16 12 / 6 volt batteries, volts and temperature. If all goes well it will also be a balancer.

Riaan is in the final testing phase of the device.

Do you have a price and release date in mind for it yet? What if I need to monitor 32x batteries?

If you need more batteries then you buy and expander cable to handle more batteries.

ok, so this is the first mention of an "expander cable" Please send more info + prices on it.

The standard one will be able to monitor 8 and 16 batteries as standard. The BMV options will only becoming in version 2.
