October 3, 20214 yr I've seen 2 flashes of lightning in the 12 years living in Cape Town. A blessing and a curse. My electronics are relatively safe but I miss the smell of ozone in the air after an electrical storm in Johannesburg and the summer showers
October 3, 20214 yr Author Even though CapeTown is relatively free of lightning I still went ahead and installed surge protectors in my combiner box
October 3, 20214 yr I'm going to do the same, just to make sure that if something happens I will not have issues with the insurance company.
October 3, 20214 yr My house has been struck every year for the past 4 years... lets hope this year is an exception. Luckily the only thing i have ever lost is the complex intercom system(four times...) and an extractor fan(once). Normally the earth leakage just trips and i go put it back up and everythings fine, have never had surge or lightning arrestors installed (now with my new solar install i do on the AC and DC side) Edited October 3, 20214 yr by Basil Katakuzinos
