I replaced my Mercer inverter with this, it is an Axpert 1000w inverter (12V). I use it for load shedding to keep the WI-FI and internet and my desktop running. The issue which I did not know about when I bought this is that the fan runs 24/7 and quite load as well. Does anybody know if this is a "fixable" problem. Maybe a firmware update or something? I have even taken the load down to 55w at the fan still runs all the time. The issue is this is in the "office" and it is really loud and distracting.

Do you have solar connected to it or using it as a UPS?

Is it still under warranty?

Yes, it is only 2 weeks old, I only connected it yesterday as I was waiting for my batteries to be replaced

Then I would get it replaced - short and sweet. Hope you come right.

I notice a lot of sellers only repair units if faulty after install.

I have emailed them and hope to see what they say tomorrow. What I am trying to work out is is this a fault or by design. It just seems to me that it should not be so noisy like the fan is running at 100% all the time. 

My understanding is that the low power models do have very crude fan control, and cheap, noisy fans.

If you have to keep it, you might be able to replace the fan with a ball bearing fan with rubber mount kit, which will be much quieter. The problem with the higher power models is that this sometimes interferes with the fan lock detection. But with such crude fan control, this might be OK, but that's just a guess. Noctua make good quiet fans. Install them to blow air upwards into the unit, instead of opposing natural air flow and blowing down.

If you are stuck with it one might also consider using a 7809 voltage regulator chip to reduce the voltage and hope this reduced speed will not affect the fan lock protection. Just one thing to try instead of a series resistor running quite hot. Fan lock protection is when the fan has 3 wires.

I have also recently found some real crap fans that become noisy with a sound as if the shaft is dry. After some 15min they sometimes turn normally.

The 7809 regulator will get just as hot. It's just easier to heatsink in the TO-220 package.

To waste less heat, you'll need a switching regulator. Not quite so cheap and easy.

Got a reply from the supplier and they said this is how they are designed, because of the small capacity and small form factor the fan runs 100% of the time. I will have to come up with a plan. Was thinking of putting it inside a built in cupboard and then having to vent that through the cupboard doors for any gas build up and heat. I dont really have anywhere else to move it to.
