I want to upgrade my RCT 3KW VMIII to a 5KW inverter, and looking at MKS3 and MKS4 boxes.

The specs seem very similar on MKS3 vs MKS4 (although MKS4 is rated for 5.6KW, and MKS3 at 5KW), and price is quite comparable, so I have two specific questions:

1. Does anyone know any reason why not to get an MKS4?
2. Are Kodak branded inverters comparable in quality to Axpert or RCT?

Hi Ben, they are all rolled out from the same production factory. The OEM is Voltronics. They get distributed and then renamed as Kodak, Mecer and RCT.

Quality is the same. The MKS4 is a later model that is all.

Right. But it comes with the disadvantages of being the latest model: it will have more firmware bugs, and it will be harder (currently impossible) to get firmware update files.

Also, with the new model, you lose the ability to remove the display and mount is elsewhere (but quite near to the inverter). But I suspect that this wasn't as popular as they thought it might be, so they went back to a fixed display. You see more data at once on the fixed display, but everyone seems to want to use a PC or phone to monitor their inverters these days.

I certainly don't need the ability to detach the display. But I really wish they would put engineering effort into improved efficiency instead of LED lights!
