Raspberry Pi 3 overheating?

What I have learned by digging a bit deeper is to setup of VNC sever & session graphic size a lot better. For the few weeks I ran ICC via VNC, the bottom part of the screen was always cut off. So Max Grid Hour & Max PV Hour was not visable. Now I'm able to see those as well.

Now I see Solar/Battery kWh used stays on zero, as well as grid kWh used. Switched on geyser to confirm,....

It is nice to know everything is sorted out.

I still have this problem. I have tried to fix it once or twice in the past, but never got it right. Maybe you can point me in the right direction how to get it fixed.

Don, not 100% sure, but you can give this a try, because I'm not sure what system you have. My system 1 x Axpert 5kVA.

So, under inverter selection, select Axpert 5kVA Parallel. Just make sure that further down, you have the number of inverters set to 1. Remember to SAVE. As soon as i did this, those values starting clocking. Manie actually should be credited for this fix, not me.

I have 2 inverters. The values are clocking, I just can't see them. I think I misunderstood you when you said they were not visible and now you can see them. I thought you changed some value to make to application smaller so you could actually see all the values, especially those at the bottom.

Thank you very much for sending me the correct screen settings Manie. I changed the settings in the config.txt file. Now I can see all the figures without some going off the screen.

  • 2 weeks later...

I added the Pi temperature. It posting to emoncms. Just want to test thing to make sure its stable then i will release the new version

Just as matter of interest, one of my Pi's also started randomly crashing recently - at times when I couldn't get to it immediately, so I'm not sure if it's hot or not when it crashed. But it turns out the power supply was flaky - couldn't supply the constant power over long periods of time. Replaced it two weeks ago, and no crashes yet.

Thanks Manie,

Just for interest sake, the symptoms of an overheating Pi is slow responses from VNC. If your console gets sluggish, not need to go and feel the CPU temp with your finger, just follow Don's command:

vcgencmd measure_temp

I however suspect it's due to the Wifi connection dropping out, not necessary the CPU throttling back.

To check your Wifi link, type:

sudo iwconfig wlan0

Thanks Manie,

Manie, I'm running the image. I've register on emoncms. If I point my browser to the localhost, i get a login page, for which I do not have login credentials. Sorry, sometimes I can't see the obvious. Yes, tries the obvious ones...no luck. OpenEnergyMonitor www says create a username, but I don't have such an option.

send me a pm so i can help you. With remote acess

At the login screen, the username is as described in the text file on the desktop.
