June 2, 20224 yr Good day I currently have a Voltronic Infini V1 5k Inverter running with 8 x 6volt Lead Acid batteries being monitored by a Victron BMV 702 and ICC software. I am now replacing the old faithful lead acids with a BSL 6.4kw Lithium battery. My question is, should I keep the ICC and BMV 702 to monitor the battery, or replace the ICC software with Solar Assist to use the actual BMS of the battery? Not sure if this will be better or keeping the BMV 702 measuring the capacity with the shunt or utilizing the battery's BMS with solar assist as the inverter according to me would not communicate.
June 2, 20224 yr Hi @Lionheart, If you go to iccsoftware.co.za's pages, you will see the list of supported batteries, right at the bottom of the home page. The BSL's are supported, but only on the ICM version of the s/w. You've got ICC version. So you need to find out from ICC software guys what is the best options: 1) Change from ICC to ICM to be able to monitor the BSL via Pi - Not sure if they have such a upgrade path/service. Ps. you will need a USB to RS485 cable 2) Add BSL support to ICC - probably not going to happen:-(. If no option available, as an interim, you can use the shunt & 702 to "measure" your lithium battery, but it will only look at that. It won't control charging rates etc. If you haven't bought the battery, then get what is supported by ICC e.g. Pylontech.
June 2, 20224 yr Solar assistant has a few options for you. They support VE direct Comms so that means the shunt can be used or the battery BMS itself. They should both give the same readings. A few ways to go about it.
June 3, 20224 yr Author Thank you for the reply Confirmed, ICC will not work, need to purchase ICM. Think I will rather go with Solar Assistant. I think one should get a bit more from it when running straight from the battery rather than the BMV.
