Hi Guys

I recently upgraded to deye 8kw with dyness 4.8 battery and 18 panels. I have more solar than consumption and not selling solar to grid or non essentials at this stage. I disabled grid charge. I then noticed that as soon as pv comes on it chargers battery instead of using pv for consumption. I then changed priority to "load first" so that pv helps with consumption and only charge when I have more pv than what I consume. My problem now is that through the night it concurrently uses about 40W from my battery leaving me with low battery after load shedding through the night. Our area has load shedding at 22:00 and then at 06:00 the next morning for example.

 

I managed to get myself authorized so that I can change all settings from app or web, but I don't get why it is concurrently drawing from battery even with Grid up and running. I thought of getting deye to update firmware, but read a post yesterday on this forum, and with no change log I don't know if this is bug or not. TBH, I am a bit reluctant to upgrade firmware.

Not quite sure what you mean by concurrently, but the inverter will only use grid as a last resort (ie if insufficient battery and PV). You can set a minimum battery value in the time of use settings. Grid will be utilised once battery reaches this level.

It draws about 40w the whole time. I have no time of use active. For example, if my load is 600w, it will take 540w from grid and 40w from battery.

 

Hope it makes more sense. Let me know if you need more settings.

ok, I think you want to use the unit as a UPS, but use solar rather than grid, when the Sol provides plenty of photons... not sure whether you will be able to get the inverter to not use battery, during the night... maybe have an option of grid charge, but hell, I don't understand those settings properly myself, maybe someone more clued up than me, can help you out there... from what I can see the 5kW Sunsynk consumes between 70 and 100W to operate, so if you're running off battery at night, like me, you have to budget in the inverters, pretty heave draw, in my opinion, as part of your energy footprint...

The "zero export power" is set to 20W, this is the inverter's way of knowing the grid is there and making sure that large loads that switch off do not export back to the grid.

Your inverter also draws about 25W-45W to run (when you have reached the desired battery percentage) which will be taken from the battery. If you intend on keeping the percentage then click "grid charge" in your time of use settings

As soon as I change the energy pattern to "Battery First" I don't have the problem of my battery being drained by 40w, but then the battery gets charged first when pv comes online, and all the load gets fed by Grid power. I want to minimize my grid usage and let the pv help until pv is more than usage in house, and then only charge the battery.

That can be done by "Load First", but then I have above mentioned issue...

Ok, Catfury, you need to set under your System mode, that overnight, the battery  should remain at 99 or 100%, I think and that should prevent the battery from being drained by the inverter, unless the grid disappears, then it will run off battery, but charge it again, once the grid returns...

Someone who has figured out these settings can hopefully chime in, I'm talking from a Sunsynk perspective, the menus on the Deye are different, but the same functionality is available, I am pretty certain...
