September 21, 20223 yr Hi All, This morning when I walked into the garage I got a plastic smell from the inverter. Amazingly it was still running and powering load at the time. Anyway, this evening I opened it up and found a fried box-shaped component in a slot marked C13 on the silk screen. It also has two pins so presumably it's some large Cap? I desoldered it to get a look, but unfortunately the only lettering still visible is .....AC. Does anyone have an idea what this is and more specifically what the values are? Regards, Danie

September 22, 20223 yr I believe that the 475K code means 4.7 μF 10% tolerance. 350 VAC means what is seems: 350 volts, alternating current. I'm guessing that should be an X2 rated capacitor or better; it may be across the mains. Possibly killed by transients resulting from regular load shedding.

Some components these days have weird codes. When getting to SMT then one must Google the code to even know what component of what value it is. Cannot guess it. 🤔🤔🤔
