EASun iSolar SMV 8K -- EEPROM Fault

Featured Replies

Hello,

First sorry for my english, because I'm french.

I bought 3 weeks ago an EASun iSolar SMV 8Kw (A clone of Voltronic Axpert MAX 8Kw or MPPSolar MAX 8kw if I understand)

The inverter is working well for three weeks now but I have noticed an issue with it. Since this first time I powered it, I have alarm EEPROM Fault (Only visible on WatchPower Android App)
Everything is working perfectly despite of this message. But I have heard scary things on internet forum like that error can lead after 60 days to an error code 90 and the break down of the inverter.

Am I concerned with this problem related with serial number ? If I compare what I can read from Solar Assistant or WatchPower and what it's marked on the inverter, the serial is the same and not the default one like 555553....Is it good news ? If not what can i do (I think I can send a command or use a serial writer but I don't want to do mistakes) ?

If it's not related, what can cause this EEPROM fault without symptoms

The inverter is working without battery for now
Main firmware version is 72.03
Secondary firmware version is 112.14.

Last question. Can I safely upgrade the firmware one for Axpert Max 91.04 and 12.21 for the display.  Is upgrading firmware related with serial number or not ?

Thanks for reading

I'm still unsure whether EASun is a clone maker (some web sites claim this), or whether at least some of their products are legitimate Voltronic products with EASun branding.

But see below.

It's the absence of really bad news. In other words, in the unlikely event that you had the generic serial number, then that would have been really bad news. You don't have that, but it doesn't necessarily mean good news.

It's not totally clear to me. The EEPROM is a small chip external to the main processor, operating over something like an I2C bus. My guess is that when you send some commands to the chip to write settings and the like, the chip responds with some sort of status code indicating success or lack thereof. Perhaps it had a verify error, or the chip completely failed to respond (timeout), or similar.

As long as the inverter remains powered up, settings continue to be stored in RAM. My guess is that if you power down the inverter, then parts of the memory may be corrupted, affecting some random settings or other data (serial numbers etc are also stored in the EEPROM). You might end up with a generic serial number, for example. Some of the EEPROM contents store things like calibration for measurements. Depending on the nature of the data and the extent of the error, the effects could be subtle or catastrophic or anything in between.

Eek. That would seem to rely more strongly on the EEPROM integrity.

The 72.03 version number seems unusual to me; I would expect either 46.xx or 90.xx. Unless this is a (clone of?)  an Axpert MAX II, with the colour display surrounded by the round LED ring. If the latter, I'd expect 54.xx.

The discrepancy also suggests to me that this model is a clone. However, firmware version numbers, especially for the MAX models, seem to be all over the place, so it's far from conclusive.

I would not attempt to update the main DSP firmware, as the discrepancy seems too great. The removable display firmware (assuming that the display is removable) is more likely to be safe. But as with all clones, you really don't know what you're getting.

No.

Thanks a lot for those informations, you really are a boss

Indeed It's a removable display like Axpert Max not the Axpert MAX II.

it confirms my thought to not upgrade for now since I don't have inverter issue yet

Concerning eeprom fault message, I will continue like that for now since I don't notice anything abnormal and I will advise if there is a problem

in future.

Clearly since I read many things on internet, I didn't think that inverter clone can exist but chinese people are able to do anything.

I would have prefered to know that before I buy it, I certainly would be more careful in the future.

Hi All

@Sharkut : Could you please share update about your appliance ? Still working properly ? No F90 so far ? Your feedback will be much appreciated.

I did buy the exact same unit as yours on the EAsun official website.

Unfortunately after exactly two months after the system setup, I got the F90 fault code.

I have a dummy serial number (5535553553555) different from one on the right side of the unit.

Main CPU FW : 72.03

Secondary CPU FW : 112.14.

Raised a case to EAsun (unit still under warranty), the commercial for EASun is ghosting me for the moment.

1 million dollar question : Did I buy a clone ? Is there a safe/known method to get around this

Thank you all

Which is the site ? There are a lot of Easun sites.

In my case the inverter is working for now more than 6 months. But instead of you, the serial number was the same in the eeprom and in the right side of the unit. Dummy serial maybe caused by clone ,eeprom failure or misprogramming in Factory. You need to ask easun support to give you axpert sn software to rewrite correct sn in the eeprom. After if its not working you probably need to return unit. Another possibility if you have a 2806 DSP, you can try the firmware build by Georges to avoid F90 check

@sharkutThank you for your feedback. Much appreciated. Someone from EAsun contacted me this morning to collect some evidence of the issue. I'll wait for now to see what they will come up with.
