June 8, 20251 yr We just had a 10KW Fox ESS system installed at my sister’s house in Centurion. Great service and very pleasing results with just 9 panels and one 10.4KW battery. The system has cut the consumption by a little over 50%.Feel free to reach out for the installers we used.

Great service and very pleasing results with just 9 panels and one 10.4KW battery. The system has cut the consumption by a little over 50%.What was the consumption before? On the face of it 50% is not nothing, but also not so great. On sunny days my system generates 85 to 90% of the electricity I need. Probably it could do it all most days if I turned off grid and put the entire DB onto the backed up side and then kept very careful count of what appliances are on at any given time. Of course, if the consumption was 70kWh per day, then 50% is not so bad. But in such cases the customer needs to look at ways to reduce consumption.
June 9, 20251 yr @Bobster. - Perhaps there is a misunderstanding here. Her use during the daytime is 100% covered but she has only 1 X 10KW battery, so she makes use of Eskom during the evening. For 24Hrs, just over 50% is covered by solar production. Why reduce consumption? She will simply need to expand her backup and seeing that the evenings appear to use between 10 Kwh and 13 Kwh one more battery will see her come close to not use any Eskom unless there is bad weather like today. She could of course plan better and try teaching the kids to not shower and bath both morning and night. Run dishwashers etc in the day and so forth. I wanted to see he become independent of Eskom to a large degree and not have to worry about changing lifestyle or routines. She lost her husband and eldest son, and now runs his business alone. Much of which is support 24/7. So we will expand the batteries and panels till it's basically set and forget. We have a 200AH UPS in her office so in the event the batteries are ever depleted, and she has load-shedding or power failures at night, the UPS will run the whole office at home. Server, internet, laptops etc. Some of us have time to tinker and change the way we live, some not. In my own residence I run a Sunsynk 8.8Kw inverter and 6 X 5.2KW batteries and have 2 X 8 550 Watt Longi panels. I run whatever we need whenever we need it. Including running an Aircon every night all night and 24/7 over weekends. We also have a pool with a 1.1kw motor and all the usual appliances. We cook on induction and Air-Fryer and the oven is rarely used. On prepaid electricity, I bsically keep 100 units loaded and have to coevr the monthly minimum service charge. We load 1 to 2 vouchers a month of R250.00. It's been a great investment. I wish I had gobe the Fox ESS route though.

When I look at how much my property consumes, it hasn't changed much since solar, but we just do a lot less at night now. So we have a 10kWh battery, and we (two adults) get through the night with quite a bit to spare if the battery is fully charged at 16:00. So, as you say, we run the dishwasher during the day, we heat the water during the day. At night the house is really just ticking over - 200 to 400 W.The real point here is that there can be a greater saving, though in COJ where I live you always run into the fixed fees for being connected to the grid. If you're on the default tariff here you'll pay a grand before you use any electricity.1 hour ago, XL1000 said:In my own residence I run a Sunsynk 8.8Kw inverter and 6 X 5.2KW batteries and have 2 X 8 550 Watt Longi panels. I wish I had gobe the Fox ESS route though. There are some not so good hardware options, but if you're buying good equipment (and Sunsynk is good hardware) then how you use it makes at least as much difference as what you bought. In my case, for years, we were under-panelled. I expanded the solar array and now we are not totally off-grid, but we are doing better - especially when the weather isn't so good. We did have to learn to make best use of the system, but we were sort of expecting that. At our previous house we had a solar geyser installed and had to learn what should have been self-evident: To maximise the benefit you have to change your routines so that you make best use of the free water heating.
June 26, 20251 yr Looking to find an additional 10.4 Kw Fox ESS battery. What local suppliers are there?Yes, we had an installation done, and I will offer for them to quote, but I'd like to compare as this will need installation, and a combiner box fitted.Currently having the ECA oversee the compliance of the installation done, as the electrician that signed off the ECOC was never on site. Hence looking at other options.
