July 7, 20232 yr Hi, I have a 10kw, 3 phase, 48V vertical turbine installed with a 48V hybrid mppt charge controller compatible with Lithium Batteries. It is spinning and the mppt controller picks up voltage coming in (20-30v), but does not pick up any current from the turbine. Can anyone please advise what could possibly cause this. Could it be a polarity issue from the turbine?
July 7, 20232 yr What is the nominal voltage of your turbine and the working range of the mppt? Are they matched?
July 22, 20232 yr Author Hi. Both the Turbine and the mppt controller are 48v 10kw units. The average maximum voltage measured by the mppt is about 30v but the current remains 0 amps.

August 30, 20232 yr Maybe I am wrong here but my guess is that the voltage (20-30V) is insufficient to charge the 48V battery. Just like a solar panel putting out 30V would not charge a 48V battery. It needs to be 52V to start charging. The reason no amps are showing is because there is not yet any charging taking place. It is unlikely to be a polarity issue as the three wires of 3-phase wild AC from a turbine can be wired in any order on the AC side. Only the DC side would be polarized.
