November 4, 201510 yr TTT: Where is the best place in CT for a 702 then Try www.ontrack.co.za Cheapest BMV702 I could get at the time.
November 5, 201510 yr Regarding the Opto-coupling that didn't work. I think it's a speed limitation thing, and that the cheaper couplers aren't good for more than a few kilohertz. You do however get couplers that can handle a bit more speed, but they are obviously more expensive. For example, in the Microcare MPPT they use an opto-gate driver (basically an LED "shining" onto the gate of a FET) which drives the main switching MOSFET on the high side at 40khz. Chip is rated up to 50khz. Something like that should deal with 19200 just fine, or at least such is my amateur guess :-)

November 5, 201510 yr You can use ISO7220 or ISO7221 for galvanic isolation. I've used them in a few projects.
November 6, 201510 yr I can supply a 700 for R2100.00 incl VAT. The 702's are out of stock at both my suppliers.
