Roof Fans & Solar - Which Quiet Ceiling Fans Are Efficient with Solar?

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm building a new house and would like to get someone's experience with roof fans and solar.

We live near Kruger, and it's 30 Deg in Winter. In summer it's a lot hotter. Our fans run all the time. They're also great at keeping away mozzies.

All the fans I've tried before start squeaking after about 2 years. I'm told the bearings wear out and they always need to replace the whole fan.

A Few Quick Questions:

1. What energy efficient fan would you choose?

2. How many blades should it have?

3. Do you know any good ones that are quiet.

4. Do you know any good fans where you can just replace the bearings every few years if needed?

I want to connect up a solar system and want to work out how to handle the wind movement in the house.

If anyone has experience or knowledge on fans please chime in! Thanks in advance.

Not easy to work out what volume of air is moved to determine it's efficiency. Power used a function of volume(mass) of air moved.

I think at the speed of the fan the blades does not make a big difference. Blades are perhaps more chosen for style reasons. The type with retractable blades look nice.

I have some that are still quiet after 8 yrs but the design won't be available.

Sounds like you are looking for a HVLS Fan (high volume low speed), they are pretty expensive

Otherwise would look for a good quality fan from one of the local suppliers maybe have a look at https://skyfans.co.za/original-paddle-fan/ or https://selectivefans.co.za/

Would speak to the fan experts and see what they advise as I am sure they have some formula's for working out what size fans you should get.

Thanks for this! These look amazing! I didn't even know about them! Will reach out and see if they can also replace parts if needed.
