My take on this is as follows, if you are running the wiring outdoors, on the roof, etc. using metal conduit would be good, also if this conduit is decently connected to ground, you should have the benefit of less induced energy in your PV wiring, from a nearby lightning strike, whereas with PVC conduit, you only have some weather, rain/sunshine protection for you PV wiring and I'm not so sure how long the PVC will stand up to our UV levels prduced around Southern Africa, from the sun.
