whats the difference between the new K and the older P model.

I previously heard there was problems with the power switchover on the Mecer units ? was that limited to a specific SKU, has that been fixed, I can get a new K model at a fantastic price, leaving me to spend more on batteries and panels now,

The King has zero transfer time, meaning that the load is always on the inverter. I assume that this means if the load is more than the inverter can handle, it has no choice but to drop the load. [ Edit: I've found that this is not the case. There is still a bypass mode. There is a small 4 ms transfer time between inverter mode and bypass mode. Zero transfer applies only for line ↔ battery mode. ]

It also has the removable display, fancy new buttons, USB capabilities (including firmware update?).

Just make sure that it's of genuine Voltronic Power manufacture, or that you're comfortable with the potential limitations if it's not.

So ye, was thinking it combines feeds... to cary workload, now clear it only switches between feeds. very different from what i believed, was lead to believe.

makes the sizing for the panels and batteries on day one very different.

If you mean is there such a thing as a clone that appears to be a genuine Mecer: I've not heard of one, yet.

It depends on what you want. If you want the ultimate in efficiency, then the KP in line mode (normal operation) is worse, as it has the efficiency penalty of double conversion.

But the KP (an Axpert King) has the ability to blend AC-in (usually utility) and PV power, so that's usually a winner. The latest models support direct connection to a Pylontech BMS; that's not available in most other models including the P and NB.

If you already have a 250 V to 400 V solar array and don't care about insulation monitoring, you might prefer the NB (SOL-I-AX-5NB).

Have you noticed any issues with the transfer time with the SOL-I-AX-5P ? I'm trying to sort out my Dad's setup and the every time it changes mode the HiFi receiver turns off and all the lights noticeably blink off/on. Given this is occurring every 30 mins (even on utility power) the inverter does not seem suitable for blending in solar power

With sensible settings, it should not be switching from utility to battery power every 30 minutes.

This is not one of the models (with output source priority SUB) that can blend PV and utility power. PV power can only be blended with battery power.

Which setting do I use for auto restart on the 5P..

Apart from that all works well...

If solar charging power goes to zero until you restart it, that's a bug, not a (bad) setting.

What main (U1) firmware are you running? There is likely a fix for this.

In the sense that you can connect the inverter and most lithium batteries by a cable, no. This model has no RS-485 or CAN bus port.

In the sense that you can use monitoring software that talks to the BMS on the inverter's behalf, yes.

In the sense that there is patched LFP flavoured firmware available, yes. Whether you need 72.20e or 74.40e depends on whether you have a 64 V model or not, respectively. Check your existing firmware version to be sure.
