Discontinuation of Dyness A48100 LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) , who is next ?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

This is one for the Battery guru's !

I have a 12.5 kw Sunsynck 3 phase Inverter with 3 x Dyness A48100 batteries. 12 x (455w) solar panels, for residential use. Purchased 20 May 2022. During that time it was regarded a system for a larger house and that 3 batteries should be fine. The advice I received was that "one can always add on batteries later" . During that time the batteries was selling for end user (Myself) at R 27 999 / per battery.

Recently I wanted to purchase 3 x more batteries to expand my system. Only to find that the batteries are DISCONTINUED !

The installers advice to me was that I must purchase 2 x new Dyness powerbricks 15.3 Kwh. Cost R 86 k installed and basically the 3 previous batteries is redundant and cannot be used anymore ! So basically R 90 K down the drain for the old batteries. The BX51100 cannot be used according to them as they run different Voltage systems !

Obviously , I will never by Dyness again ! What is going to happen when the new batteries are getting discontinued, Is it going to be R86 k down the drain again ?

Is there anything that can be done ? Is the BX51100 not compatible with the A48100 ? It does not help if you have a warranty, and you are not near your lifecycle but you cannot find batteries that are compatible ?

Your old batteries are 15cell
The new ones are 16cell, thus the nominal 48V for the 15cell whereas the 16cells are nominal 51V
You could parallel them with other 15cell batteries of the same chemistry. This would mean voltage controlled Inverter settings as another 15cell Battery will probably not communicate with your current Battery BMS.
If you are experimentally inclined, then knock on the door of @WannabeSolarSparky who actually reconfigured his 15cell batteries.

Wil the MECER A48100 work

Any 15 cell with the same chemistry can run in parallel even if they have different capacities.
Whether the BMS comms work between the different batteries is a hit and miss, and thus I stated before that you might have to employ USE mode voltage controlled charging.
@WannabeSolarSparky actually modified his battery packs with JK BMS which ensures that they are all compatible in terms of comms.

This user recently upgraded to a 315Ah 16 cell battery and has the same issue. He started off with two 15cell SVolt batteries.
His 15Cell batteries are about a year old and he is now selling them. https://powerforum.co.za/topic/32557-2x-svolt-48v-106ah-509-kwh-for-sale/#comment-220208

@Phillipsolar I am in the same boat - you could sell off the 48100 and upgrade to another Dyness OR totally different brand. Those 48100s were popular so it might not be difficult to offload them. I also have 3 48100s and am keen to expand my bank - dont mind about 2nd hand batteries - just funds are not aligning at the moment

I am also in the same boat. I am willing to buy one of you A48100, please drop me a message on 0798971393 if you are willing to sell. I am in JHB

Have a neighbour here on the East Rand who installed one last year when he started with his back up system. He wants to expand, so his battery may be available.
Let me know if you wish to get in contact with him, then I can give you his ctc details via PM

Hi zsde

Thank you for your advise, I will follow up with @WannaSolarSparky. Quick question Wil the MECER A48100 work ? Those batteries look remarkable alike.

With kind regards

From what I was told the Mecer branded batteries could very well be Dyness similar batteries to what you have. One must just confirm from those in the know if both use the same BMS.

Further when consulting with some members and as @zsde mentioned one need not always waste the capital already invested and go the voltage control route as I am using with success. If using the voltage method you can then add other 15 cell batteries with your Dyness if you cannot get hold of the older batteries from someone in the same boat and upgrading to another make / or to 16 cell batteries. As mentioned the SVOLT 48V version is also a 15 cell battery and could be used via voltage setting. This means you get some more value out of the older Dyness.

My brother in law has the same problem. If you want to sell one or more of those 48V Dyness batteries please let me know. Alternatively, if anyone wants to buy a single 48100A please let me know.

Good day Dyness Discontinued A48100 disappointment. I trust this message finds everyone well.

Same boat as most you Gentleman, unfortunately only recently became aware. I have 12 455w Panels & 8kw Sunsynk Inverter. 2 Dyness Batteries.

Wpuld opt to Sell 2 x Healthy 98% batteries

Or perhaps I can opt to purchase one or two affordable batteries if any available.

Your Thoughts on Dyness Powerbrick perhaps ?

Kind Regards.

Thanking you in advance.

Hi, I’ve managed to get some money together and now I wanted to get one new battery only to discover these are discontinued. I’ve got 3 of these and I’m looking for another. If there is anyone who has a unit they want to offload for a reasonable amount and that has good battery health, I’m willing to take it. I’m in Western Cape, Somerset west area. Or if someone wants to take mine off me?

Hi, Good Afternoon!

Is there any resolution here to solve this? I have 2 of them too, and now I need to add 2 more due to Tenants moving in, so I would like to be covered.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this, as I think adding 2 more makes more sense.
