Solar panel and battery intermittent supply

Featured Replies

Hi, strange error on my solar set up. Supply from panels keeps dropping and one of batteries keeps disconnecting.

Deye 5kw inverter

2 x Shoto 5.12 kw batteries

Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks in advance.

The supply dropping is simply clouds going over your panels. By battery disconnecting I assume you mean the State of Charge has little dips? That is most likely not a serious issue. The State of charge is calculated using an algorithm and is an estimate of the charge. As your battery fluctuates between charging and supplying the voltage will change slightly which will influence the State of Charge calculation.

The way I see the graph when no PV and load is on grid as well as grid charging there are a lot of downward spikes which I think is what @Ron G means when his 1 battery disconnects. It is strange as the 2nd battery is still available. Even more strange is that it happens when there is PV.

Hi thanks for the comments. The strange thing re panels is I'm in Clarens and on this day there were no clouds. I can only think it is an inverter fault re panel connection and BMS as I've checked all cables and they seem to be good. I'll have to get tech in to check set up.

@Ron G This looks most like an intermittent BMS disconnection or communication error. The fact that PV output drops sharply suggests the inverter has nowhere to dump power ( battery disappears mid-charge). The SoC has frequent sharp upward and downward spikes, even during non-solar hours midnight to 06:00.
