March 21Mar 21 Anyone have experience with theseI have a Victron based system for the house, but additionally had a local UPS (older Delta Amplon, 1kVA) at the computer/networking rack.it got taken out by lightening on Tuesday night, insurance is paying me out, figured out my load is also to much for 1KvA, so wanting to go 3kVA, looking at options in the price range of insurance payout, and really like the Delta's but they seem to be probably above my budget.The Mercer looks good.https://tech.co.za/product/mecer-winner-pro-3000va-2u-on-line-rackmount-ups/then a dumb question, as these run on 12V Lead Acid batteries, can I attached a normal lead acid in parallel with say one of the batteries as it seem they run in series, with a dedicate charger ?I know it's Boer maak a plan, I happen to have 6 x 12V / 9AH batteries, meaning I can take the current 6x unit and keep the voltage at 72, but widen the Ah, by adding a extra battery in Parallel to each in the string, realise if it goes onto battery, when power/grid come back it will take longer to charge back up, but not really a issue.G Edited March 21Mar 21 by georgelza
March 21Mar 21 I have a 1kva equivalent and going strong years later. They are all very similar, voltronics rebrands from the looks of it. Note the dimensions of the 3kva, it's quite deep, won't fit in a wall mounted network rack. Dimensions 630 x 438 x 88mm

March 22Mar 22 Author guys,these are not wall mount, they are rack mount,they are not rebranded voltronic, house hold 240V,they are 6 x 12V at 72V, these are local computer rack units.@TaliaB spot on, They are always on, no transfer time,, computers always feed from them and the recharge cycle feeds the batteries, they are similar to your house alarm, it always runs of the battery, and the battery is kept charged on the other sideG

Have space that way, sound wise ? it's about 4m behind me ?other idea is to go for the 2kVA unit, I had a 1kVA, it did not last long, so this will take me from two to four batteries, I actually have another 4, so was thinking of wiring them in parallel. extending the load carrying time.G

I was aware of the requirement for medical equipment. Did not know the IT equipment needs a zero transfer time offered by the double conversion. Insidently my 1st pure sine inverter was a double inversion and worked so well until the wife decided to help with a manual switch back when grid came back and it was history. The good take away for us was to leave switching for me 😀
March 22Mar 22 Author doing some more thinking, i have about 750W load from the computer rack. If everything is on.That means with a 0.8 power factor, I’m good for about 1hour on a 1kva, please someone, tell me i’m not smoking my socks. concern point would be to what charge level of the batteries would this be, we know lead acid’s/gel don’t like to dip below 50%.so I’d think I might be ok with a 2kva ups.G

Do spend so time to do load tests on each battery to work out back up time initially. Load acid batteries can also suddenly start under performing over time and needs some input as part of maintaining the system. Older batteries in parallel with new ones tend to over work the new ones and can lead to disappointment.

As you know your loads even a 3kW should serve you well. Have a look at the Hikvision DS-UPS3000 Available at just over R4000 for a 3kVA unit.

I took it a camera supplier putting their name on equipment should then ensure the cameras work all the time. The description also indicates always on which i took as no change over time.
