July 4, 20197 yr Hi I need help. I have 5x 5KW Axpert Offgrid Inverters connected in Parallel. (sol-ix-5-m) I don't have any Eskom Power connected but instead I have a Ryobi 7KVA Petrol Generator with built in AVR. When I connect the generator to the inverters and let it run the Inverters will kick in the generator load and the in 1 second kick off and back to Solar / Battery. sometimes it will trip some trip switches. I had the AVR on Ryobi Changed to a Firman One as I believe they are better. I connect a 3KVA Tradepower Inverter generator and it will work fine but this is too small. Why do the inverters refuse to accept the power from my Ryobi generator but ok with the Tradepower. I have tried another type of generator (Honda 8kw) and this also will not kick in same result. I basically need the Ryobi to only charge the battery while the inverters use load from batteries when solar not available but no load from generator. What am I doing wrong.

These inverters don't like AC sources whose voltage or frequency changes abruptly. I don't know much about generators or their AVRs, but my understanding is that they can be slow to respond to load changes. When you initially connect the generator to a substantial load, it may take a few seconds to adjust the output voltage. This seems often to be too slow for the Axpert inverters. If possible, turn off most or all your loads, get the inverters to accept the generator with no or light loads, then gradually switch on your loads. If that's not possible, perhaps you can put a temporary load on the generator before it connects to the inverters. Failing all that, you may need a generator with an inverter built in. It may be cheaper and easier to obtain a 48 V battery charger, and run that from the generator. Connect the output of the 48 V charger to your inverters' battery.
July 6, 20197 yr I use a 6KVA pure sine wave UPS between my generator and inverter and that work just fine. Without the UPS, I experience the same problem as you.
