July 6, 20197 yr Hi all I want to get the maximum of the solar power which i am not getting. I have connected 6 x 350w panels in 3 strings of 2 in series and then connected together in parallel and fed to an Axpert MKS 5kw inverter which in turn hooked up to a 3,5 kw pylontech battery I would like to run the load and charge the battery from solar and if solar is not available to run of the grid. it has been running but switching automatically back to grid power although there was over 1kw of solar power available and the battery almost fully charged while the load was very negligible approx 100 - 200w I feel my settings need to be adjusted . on the user screen these come up on display if you press the up and down key : U1 74 20 and U2 04 12 what modes are these? also normal display you get Batt [H5] Load with values. Here below is my INVERTER program settings: 01=SOL 02=60 03=UPS 04=SDS 05=USE 06=LFE 07=EFE 09=50Hz 11=30A 12=46V 13=54V 16=C50 18=BON 19=FEP 20=LON 22=AON 23=bye 25= FEN 26=56,4 27=54v 28=PAL 29=42 30=ALL 31=SbE 32=AUE 33=Eds 34=58,4 35=60 36=120 37=30d 38=dl5 39=Ads Another issue is that if the battery is manually switched off the inverter switches off also, although the grid and PV is available to supply the load. Those are your firmware version numbers: main DSP firmware is version 74.20 and the SCC firmware version is 04.12. Quote also normal display you get Batt [H5] Load with values. You are seeing "HS" (their best attempt at "MS") because your machine is a master. That's because setting 28 is incorrect (see below). Quote 01=SOL There is your biggest problem. SOL is intended for a SOLar UPS; it will switch back to mains at sundown, or whenever it feels that the PV input is low. Use SbU (Solar, then battery if no solar, then utility if battery is low). Quote 02=60 This is the default, but it's too high for a single 3.5 kWh Pylontech. I believe that they should be charged at 36 A maximum, so use 30, or you could very likely get away with 40 A. Quote 12=46V 13=54V These are lead acid default values. Try values such as 48 and 50 V, or perhaps 49 and 51 V, or 48 and 51 V. See how your system reacts to loads and real battery SOC (from the LEDs on the front of your Pylontech, not the SOC reported by the Axpert). If you use the ICC software (see below), I believe it will set these to "let me do the talking" values, or it will recommend you to set them. I don't use ICC myself. Quote 16=C50 This is OK, never charge from utility, but you might want to use SNU (Solar aNd Utility) sometimes to charge the battery from utility. Quote 18=BON I hate the beeps, and turn this off. It's a personal thing. Quote 26=56,4 27=54v These are lead acid defaults, and are bad for your battery! Use the Pylontech recommended values, which I believe are 53.2 V and something like 52 V (there is controversy about the float voltage; I prefer a lower value like 50.3 V, others suggest just less than the absorb/bulk voltage). Quote 28=PAL This is for paralleled inverters. If you have only one, it should be set to SnG (single inverter). Perhaps this is the default for machines that come with the parallel board and cables, ready for paralleling if needed. Have AC-in connected and turn off the inverter switch off when changing this (but only this) parameter. Quote 29=42 This is another lead acid default. But it's good enough for Pylontechs, which will disconnect the battery when the real SOC is too low. Other parameters seem good. Quote Another issue is that if the battery is manually switched off the inverter switches off also, although the grid and PV is available to supply the load. These models of Axpert can't run without the battery connected. Caution! Some users have had their inverters blow up when they do this. I can't see a reason for this, and it should be safe enough, but for extra safety, turn off AC-in and PV before disconnecting the battery. Quote Finally has anyone have software for this kind of system that i can use to program and streamline my system. There is the provided Watchpower monitoring software, which is generally considered very average, but better than nothing. Get the latest version from here (the version in the provided CD-rom will be old). Many South African Axpert users use the ICC software, locally written and well supported. It's not free, and you have to buy a Raspberry Pi to run it on (you can buy it pre-installed on a Pi). I can't remember if you need a BMV is you have a Pylontech; I suspect not. ICC will make good graphs, make it easier to change the settings, and will talk to the Pylontech BMS through a special cable. This will allow control of when to change to utility and back based on accurate SOC readings from the BMS. The Axpert SOC value is worthless; it's voltage based and assumes a lead acid battery.
