Hi All,

 

interested to hear your experience if you are using Bluenova Lithium cells (especially if you have used for considerable time). I have had bad experiences with AGM cells and then VRLA cells. i am considering going to Bluenova in the hopes that it will be a reliable solution for a long time. Any comments would be appreciated.

why this specific brand? I am not shooting the brand down as they are awesome batteries.
do some research on other brands like Freedom Won, SMD, Soltaro, Pylontec, Dyness etc

One reason might be because you have a specific preference for LiFeYPO4 cells (Ytrium, has a temperature advantage, or so they say). BlueNova uses Winston cells, which is a more expensive kind of cell, but it has the Ytrium component.

That might be one reason. We can debate whether it really matters... I personally don't know.

Hi Andrew

I have had the BlueNova BN52V-230-12k (52V 230Ah 12kWh) for just over 1 year and am very happy with it. The guys at BlueNova have also been very helpful with the odd technical question.

The main point to note is that the internal BMS is not very accurate at measuring low discharge currents - so you need to include a BMV712 (or similar) to accurately measure current into/out-of the battery so that you have a realistic idea of the SOC.

Edit: BlueNova is now part of the Reutech group, so have significant backing, which is useful for a product that has to have long-term support and warrantee.

From what I have read it seems that its only useful if you live in a very cold climate where using the cells would otherwise damage them.

what i like is the fact that they are local. in my mind this will help for support and also warranty repair transport costs (should it be necessary)

i already have a BMV712 so that is not an issue

Freedom Won is local

Solar MD is local

Both have great support.

From what I read yesterday, the Sinopoly cells used by FreedomWon are in fact very good quality cells, except that they lost the right to the Winston formula when the companies split. Or something like that. So no Yttrium for them. I think the FreedomWon battery has the better BMS, but the BlueNova battery has the better cells. My opinion anyway. I like the white powder-coated package of the FreedomWon battery a LOT!

I also like the look, but damn the actual size gets crazy!
