JDP are you by any chance buying into the Pi project for AICC to also read data this way? 

Hahaha lol TTT. I am using Pis and other controllers for a nother big project I am working on. I am still deciding what is the best solution. I have 2 prototypes in the field running the last 2 months. I have a testing bed in the corner of my studio. 

and I picked ip a 3 today for more testing. 

So I am using the toys but for a other project. From building these prototypes it is very clear that if you follow thls route it is not the normal user who will be able to set it up and use it. I dont have time as it is. Dont have time to help users to setup a simple data reader. That is why I decided on windows as you unzip and run. My grandma can do it ;-)

If that drive comes out, I am getting a Pi3b and sorting my media centre. I am tired of Pc's having to be on.

I got the touch screen al well today. Sweet little thing. The controller I am building needs a local Interface as there may not always be wifi or the Internet where they are going.

For one who never worried about Pi's, I now have a Pi, a P2 and earlier tonite I saw a Pi3 operate.

For what we need to do here, Pi1 will suffice.

BUT, toys, we always want the best toys, so therein the name containing Pi3.

And I have just destroyed a SD card ... fearless releaser of smoke I am. 

Plonkster, guess what SD card when up in smoke?

I had to get that thing working at work. A lot of the information on the internet is outdated, meant for the older resistive touch screen, or it tells you to load the wrong touch screen driver. Had to get new kernel source, and then the adafruit patches didn't apply cleanly, so there I was, massaging the code like a real kernel developer.

I never got the GPIO driver to compile cleanly though :-)

I have the screen up and running. Works very well. But and here is the but. This is a Pi 3 with onboard wifi. As soon as I load the wifi drivers the touch stops working. Mmmmm, the joys of bleeding edge.

The one I was hacking on earlier today? No worries, the source tree was dirty and there's no way I was going to get you to git-checkout the files I changed once I have them fixed, so I anticipated that I'd be getting back in there at some point.

Re the vedirect issue, I see they log voltage before current, so I need only keep track of the most recent voltage and multiply by current when it comes past. So that's an easy fix. On the mk2 side, I'm waiting for an answer from Victron about the strange missing 0x8F. I noticed on your inverter that the offset was zero, so I just hacked it into the code, but I want the library to be complete.

Wait, that's a USB/HDMI touch screen? The one I have is SPI, sits on top of the Pi, plugs into those headers.

See, when your desk and office is full of wires between equipment, you are going to neaten it up now now, do NOT unplug the HDMI cable from the screen and plug it into the Pi.

The Pi, with no power connected, will try and start (LED's come on), powered by said HDMI cable - because the other side is still connected to the Intel Server. (ROFL)

Because the Pi's power came via the HDMI cable.

The Pi has power protection on its input usb socket, the one you are supposed to use to power it. When you back-power it, for example plugging it into a powered usb hub or via the hdmi cable, there is no such protection.

Imagine I had a  USB/HDMI touch screen connected to it. 

Why is there power on the HDMI cable ? Did you plug the screen side into the Pi ?

But I have the answer:
2 cards are for stupidity;
2 are for the 2 x Pi's I now have - for I have split my system, 1 is 100% off-grid, the other one still uses Eskom as backup;
1 is for that Pi3B I just ordered, for I want to do this Windows 10 IoT thing. 

Plonkster, the cards MAY be here today, or tomorrow. Will set it up again that you can play all you want.

You must just say when you want the BMV also connected.

Then you cater for Victron Phoenix, Multiplus, my 75.15 MPPT and your larger MPPT and a BMV 700.

That will be a rather HUGE contribution from your side if you ask me!
