March 7, 201610 yr Nope, been there done that. Bought one, tried my BEST to make it swap based on batt voltages, the crowd at BMV Commander helping me a LOT!!! Until I sold the unit after discovering the Victron BMV used in conjunction with larger AC relays. Much cheaper. BUT, if you want to incorporate a SIM card to do more things, the GSM Commander is a very good idea, with a solid team there to help you.

I have tried the single unit http://www.usriot.com/p/wifi-relay-switch/ which is not expensive and would be small enough to fit inside a 4x2 box if it wasn't for the power supply ... a few days later the 220V unit http://www.usriot.com/p/wifi-remote-control-relay/ was released at same price and I am kicking myself for not having been more patient The bypass control switch allows for manual override. The nice thing is that LatLon software is also available as source and my idea would be to use the wifi-relay to control my coldroom at night (or during load shedding) when running inverter from batteries: something like ... "below a certain battery charge run coldroom every hour (rather than every 10 minutes as it does)".
March 12, 201610 yr The GSM commander is quite pricey, IMO. The same functionality could be put together with an Arduino + GSM shield, or a Raspberry Pi + GSM shield if you want to. Or if you only need to switch 1 channel on / off, a GSM intercom could work as well. Mine open / close the gate with either an SMS or miss call (my cellphone is pre-programmed to it so it can't be abused) and cost 1/3 of a GSM commander.

Years ago when I bought my first one, the gsm commanders and the extras were much more affordable, the Arduinos were not very popular yet and the Pi's were not even on the drawing boards. The advantage of the gsm commander is that any novice can set it up and get it working within a few minutes - no electronics or programming skills required.
