Growatt 5000TL inverters

Anyone have any experience with the Growatt?

I'm setting one up in an off grid mode. Connected to Pylon US3000s.

The recommended Setting #2 is 80A. Setting #2 won't accept a higher (or other) setting than 32A.

When the Pylons demand a higher wattage to charge they seem to hit the 32A ceiling and then force the voltage higher until the overvoltage cutout knocks the system on it's bum.

Recycle, restart...

It's driving me nuts.

Have you look at setting 11?

It refuses to set #11. When go to #11  and enter it automatically jumps to setting #12.

When we try to set #2 to 80A (or any value other than 32A), it automatically resets to 32A when we confirm the setting.

Setting #5 is set to Li

Out of interest, how many US3000 batteries do you have connected to the inverter? Seems like the issue is on the BMS, when you have selected Li, bms over writes battery charging settings and takes control.

2 Pylon 3.5s  so that should be 70A

I have 2 Pylon 2.4s and have never seen 48A out of my two Growatt SP5000TLs. If I can remember correctly, the most I have seen is 14A out of each. which is 28A for my batteries. Most times I get around 9A from each inverter,  I doubt you will get anything over 32A. All this is controlled by BMS, so I think we should contact Pylontech for support

On my system at home (based around a Goodwe 5048ES and 4xUS2000s + 2XUS3000s I happily get charging at 90A and more. The Pylons can accept a charge up to 100A IIRC.

For some reason, with Growatt, maximum you can get seems to be 32A for Pylons. Seeing that when you change the battery setting from Li, it is possible to get higher current. Then the issue must be with bms

You need to set the battery type to user defined, disconnect the comms cable and manually set the values.

What Growatt doesn't tell you at first. This after multiple tortured Teamviewer sessions with Mahone in China...

(My system 3.2kW panel, 2xUS3000, and Growatt 5000TL-HVM

Me

Please Mahone

Look at this that I have from April where you can see that my panels are locked in line mode until 60% SOC is reached after reaching full DOD.

1. Why line mode after DOD reached?

2. Why only 32A for charging as limit?

(see attached pic of inverter behaviour- the 1650W flat line reflects the prolonged charging period at 32A. Only at 60% SOC are the panels 'released' to contribute to both load and charging)

Mahone after many back and forths...

Hi Mark,
as we tried at noon,we have upgraded inverter BMS software to the newest version already,
normally we suggest to install US2000 to work with inverter,US3000 isn't including in our supporting list,US3000 hasn't adjusted well enough yet, especially when two or more pieces US3000 work together, please kindly note,

Summarised...

Buyer beware.

Mark
