Hi I'm looking at getting a single 300w panel and looking at the Hoymiles 600w micro-inverter.

Will the micro-inverter work without the DTU, I am not worried about the exporting issue as my baseload is 450W.

If this works well I will get another panel and then get the DTU.

1200w version connected to the sunsynk

Are you using the aux/gen port?

Does it also go down when the grid goes down or can the Sunsynk provide the "grid" for the micro inverter?

The sunsynk becomes the grid for the micro inverter.

Yes. The inverter will work fine without the dtu. I have the 1200w version connected to the sunsynk inverter and it works without the dtu.

As long as there is a grid power, it will generate, disconnect grid and it stops.

Thanx for the feedback.

What panels and how many of them have you connected to it.
