so I’ve discovered that the Mecer Ivr1200mppt has its fans going full tilt 24/7 no matter the load. Don’t mind that but it sounds like jet engines in my kitchen.

is there anyway it swap the fans out for quieter ones or perhaps install a temp sensor so they only turn on when needed. Right now These things spin even when ice cold. 

attached are a few pics of the fans and their 3 pin connections.

You'll have to scour the internet for "silent" type fans with the same dimensions, power rating and make sure they are 3-pin.

I cant see in the photo is thats a 80mm or 60mm.

 

You can't go wrong with the Noctua Fans they pricey because of the shipping but you will not be disapointed. They the best of the best installed two in my Growatt.

 

The pins will be different as the Noctua are meant for PC and Servers, you will have to use the old connectors.

They are 80mm.

I saw the noctua and was very tempted to get them until I saw the delivery fee and delivery time.

Hoping they are a bit quieter than the stock ones in the MECER. 

BTW how come you changed out your growatt fans? Were they a straight swap?

I assume that the Mecer is an Axpert with Mecer branding. In that case, I hope that you don't get the intermittent fan locked errors, as noted in this post.

Please let us know either way (i.e. if you do get the occasional fan error code, or if after a few weeks you don't notice any).

Hi Coulomb,

Thanks for the link. Seems like it can be quite a complex issue. I shall let you know how it goes. 

Not sure if this is feeable, but can one phsycally adjust the tachometer inside the fan? I did this on my ebike to increase speed, one simply moved the sensor on the wheel further out. Not sure if the fans have a similar setup though.

I have replaced my two fans on the growatt and havent had any issues for six months.

I really doubt it. The sensors are needed for the electronic commutation, which you can't mess with.

What were your reasons for getting new fans?

Which growatt do you have?

Original fans are to loud, the GRW SPF3000TL HVM-48 has two fans, 60mm 2pin which has no speed control and a 80mm 3pin with the speed sensor. They are a like for like replacement but you have to check the specs on your fans.

So I’ve completed the fan swap out and so far so good.

I tested 2 different fans, with different rpm and wattage and both work. The fans need to have the three cables with the third being the yellow tachometer. Fans without the tachometer won’t work and you will get an error. One can bridge the tachometer cable from the one fan to the other input if one of your fans doesn’t have a tach cable. That is what I did to make use of a two cable fan I already bought. I don’t know what the implications are of this so do it at your own risk.

the inverter is now much quieter although I cannot recommend doing this as air flow ie, cpm, is lower since I used slower fans. That being said I use small loads and it’s never gets warm. Full loads and summer I will have to monitor.

Hi sunset1, I know it has been almost two years since you swapped out the fans - are they still working? I am also considering doing the same. There is just too much noise from the fans. The inverter is otherwise excellent.

Hi, yes they working but remember that the CFM is nowhere near the original fans. I had to move the inverter a bit more away from the wall.

They worked great while I had it. However I've upgraded. 

 

For what it's worth the newer models are quieter. Seems they have adjusted the speed settings. 

Tk in the technical department in CT is a great help. He knows all about these inverters. 

 

Hi, what is the contact detail for the Growatt distributer in cape town. I have a growatt inverter in a flat and the noise is very disrupting.

Your feedback is appreciated, but I cannot upgrade at the moment. I am having difficulty finding a 3pin 80 mm case fan. Can you recommend a place where I can buy fans at an affordable price? The link you provided to PCLinkShop no longer works. Would TK know where I can find such fans?

I'm interested, please. Is there any with a current rating of 0.25A or less? The lower the current rating, the quieter they operate:) The fans that came with my Mecer IVR-1200mppt have a 0.4A rating. I'm aware of the CFM issue, but the wattage consumption is low, and the maximum charging current is set to 10A. I am from the Overberg in the Western Cape

It appears I actually have a bunch of 120mm and not that many 80mm fans. I do have 3x 80x80x25mm though: 0.14A and 0.15A. No idea how good their bearings are, but you're welcome to try them.
