The only VM II firmware that I know of is the one on this very forum (it took a bit of searching to find it):

The file name is VMII 5K_3K MAIN_V2043.rar, but it fact it contains 20.44 (as reported by the QVFW command). There is mention of Inverex, which sometimes have unusual power ratings (e.g. 5200 VA instead of 5000 VA), but this one seems normal. There's a slight risk that it won't work, then you'd be stuck, and would have a genuine reason to plead from your supplier for the latest update 🥺The above says 180 downloads and three thanks/likes, so presumably some people have tried it. It appears to be about 7 months later (June versus March 2018) than your machine.

The same firmware also runs 3 kVA models; the firmware tests the voltage at some pins at startup to decide which model it's running on.

many thanks Coulomb, the manual showing different picture than mine, my inverter pictured below, and to update that secondary version is 00002.03

I wonder what that is. On your model, there is no removable display, and no separate Solar Charge Controller. I don't think there is a Bluetooth or WiFi processor. Firmware 20.44 doesn't even have a QVFW2 command, let alone QVFW3 which I thought was the source for the "secondary version" in Watchpower.

But glad to hear that the firmware is updated and working.

What are the steps to update the software of VMII?

Same as with other models: firmware upload instructions.

But first you need a firmware update file, and these are very rare for VM IIs. The latest I have is I believe from 2017. It's in the files section of this forum:

It says 1.0.0, and it's in a file that suggests that it's 20.43, but it's version 20.44. May 2017.

Added link, version numbers.

Is the inverter you're trying to update perhaps a clone? There are a lot of VM II clones about at present. Some clones don't have a bootstrap loader, which would cause an error during attempted firmware reflash. I don't know if it would be the specific error that you see.

Hi Coulomb,

Thank you very much for your help

Watch power connected as well and read all parameters

but don't have any options for update the firmware

How can I show the update options in watch power?

Is there any way to show the options?

There are no update options in Watchpower. You have to use the reflash tool and USB to RS-232 adapter, or on some models you can update the main firmware via a USB stick (thumb drive) and OTG cable. But not older models like the VM II.

I think the only possibility to find out if your machine is capable of being reflashed at all may be the undocumented QBOOT command. It seems to return 1 if the inverter can be reflashed, and 0 otherwise. But sending commands like that is a bit complex. All the required details are in the PIP-4048MS etc topic, if you want to have a go. It's not a 5 step process that I can describe here.

Assuming that it's the same 31.06 that I have [ Edit Dec 2024: it is ], it's for:

* For the Axpert VM II. This is not the same as the Axpert MKS II.

* Handles 5 kVA and 3 kVA, either PF0.8 or PF1.0.

* Also handles 1.5 kVA, PF0.8 only.
