Sunsynk 5kW - Charge from PV by day and discharge from batteries by night
Try set batteries to 100% for the whole night with battery shutdown on 50%. From my experience if there is no grid then your battery will deplete only when there are no mains until the shutdown value and revert back to grid and start charging. (but I last did any test like this a year ago, so cannot be certain) Test this and share more info here.

FriendlyToast's journey to off grid - Some noob questions to get started.
I would definitely recommend that everyone starts using timers to manage energy requirmentes Your timer routine sounds pretty much the same as mine: + Pool pump = ON @ 11h45, OFF @ 15h45 + Geyser = ON @ 05h15, OFF @ 06h15, ON @ 11h30, off @ 16h00 It is an awesome feeling running an aircon off the power of the sun on a hot day 🙂

100% agree with you hear 🙂 I use my PV's excess solar energy and a geyser timer to get it working perfectly in sync

Noob sunsynk 5kva with Chinese Lithium iron batteries
Hi @zak2021, To answer those questions: 1. Secondly do you need a CT coil on the grid side? 2. What if you want to feed it back it the grid as a grid tie in system? 3. From what I read the CT coil stops the export of excess energy back into the grid. AM I correct in that understanding? All answers are YES. The CT coil measures the amount of power flowing along your main power cable. It can measure both directions of flow and this measurement is used to allow for a variety of configurations On the Sunsynk timer setup screen: Prevent export power to the grid with "Zero Export". >>> Tick this box to do not export power back to the grid (the CT coil will detect power flowing back to the grid and will reduce the power of the inverter only to supply the local load). Limit power to supply to only all the house loads with "Solar Export". >>> Tick this box if you wish to export your solar power back to the grid. Limit power to supply only the loads connected to LOAD port with "Limit to Load only". >>> Tick this box if you only want to supply power to the load side of the inverter.

Powelink PLE12D Meter - Reverse ?
I know my landis+gyr gemini plc2 prepaid meter detects reverse flow and deducts from my prepaid credits. This is because it has been programmed like that. I am waiting for Ethekwini to approve my SSEG licence and bidirectional metering.

Can I mix Pylontech and Hubble batteries
I'm still doing research at this stage. Just considering options. I'm happy with my batteries, good for 6000 cycles down to 5% if I am to believe the marketing. Though I only take them down to 15% daily. If I can grab 2 more pylontech us3000c's (second hand) for 30k then that is a much better for me I think.

Can I mix Pylontech and Hubble batteries
I have 2x sunsynk 5.5k hybrids, and 2x pylontech US3000C 3.5kwh lithium batteries. Can I add a Hubble AM2 5.5Kwh lithium battery to my system, and how would I do this safely?

Yes feed back to the grid. I am in Westville KZN, so my application is sitting at the Pinetown council offices apparently. I am hoping to go and follow up personally next week. Do you have any advice for me?

I wish I had the old style meter.. So sad. I've been waiting since Aug 2021 for my export license as I've got a smart meter.

Sunsynk 5kW setting “Sol exp bat full”
Hi Logan, from this last post I take it that you were not able to resolve this issue. I have a similar issue and have been told by the installer that the Sunsynk inverter cannot export solar energy whilst ensuring that none escapes to the "GRID" on the street. So I will always have a chance of a reverse flow. My prepaid meter is setup to count reverse flow and deduct credits as a tamper-proof measure. We are running more tests tomorrow, however the only known solution is to apply to Ethekwini for a bi-directional meter. For now we have moved my geyser onto my essential circuit, and via geyser timer and inverter timer I have set it to heat using grid in the early morning and then heat using available solar (on essential) during the day. Let me know if you want to hear more of how this turns out.

Sunsynk 5kW - Charge from PV by day and discharge from batteries by night
@LeshenAn installer. @Achmat , @RhysMcW I am reading the Sunsynk training manual and it agrees to the flowchart shared with us all above by @RhysMcW. Ie CT coil on the live cable on the main fuse feeding the building, Im now 100% certain they've done it wrong despite what they are saying to reassure me. Its simple for me as I am holding back the last 20% payment until its done correctly. I am sure they will relocate the CT coil and we can retest

Sunsynk 5kW - Charge from PV by day and discharge from batteries by night
I am going to ask the technician to draw a flow diagram for me, I think your concerns have merit. Point being that my inverter had no visibility when I was running my geyser. If my CT coil was placed as per your flowchart, then I should have seen a 3kw draw I believe. I am escalating to the technician as I think they have wired this thing incorrectly.

Sunsynk 5kW - Charge from PV by day and discharge from batteries by night
Please see my reply above, I think you might be onto something as I suspect that my inverter cannot see the load on the essential circuit, so it does not know how/when to limit that export based on load.. but please check above

Sunsynk 5kW - Charge from PV by day and discharge from batteries by night
Morning Leshen I've spokem to the technician, the issue is not the installation --- but the prepaid meter, which is picking up current flowing back to the street. The CT is on the correct wire according to him. For me I can only see it measuring the power that the inverter is drawing from the grid to supply essentials. As per the sunsynk flowchart the coil is sittin on the grid wire. As I have mentioned previously, the CT coil is measuring accurately how much power I am purchasing to supplement my essential load, and I am in the process of getting a bi-directional meter for the house. This will stop the prepaid meter from charging me when export solar energy. Point is that I know that the inverter has been exporting power, and I can see the meter charging me for it --- even if I am using or not using it. I the next week I am getting the geyser (&timer) wired to the essential circuit so that I can make use of the solar energy in the interim. QUESTION : Where is the CT meant to be connected to ? On the .. a) TOTAL GRID WIRE (ie. main input before any DB's) ? OR b) the ESSENTIALS GRID WIRE (which the inverter uses to buy power) ? OR c) the NON-ESSENTIALS GRID WIRE ? QUESITON : Is the sunsynk flow chart correct? TEST A Basic Conditions: zero export with 10w trickle flow. Batteries are still charging. - Test 1 (Photo 1) : I have no loads on the Non-Essential circuit, and lights on essentials - Test 2 (Photo 2) : I have the 3kw geyser on the Non-Essential circuit, and lights on essentials From this test I can tell that the Inverter cannot measure the load on the non-essential circuit. And from previous tests, I can tell that the inverter can measure the loads on the essential circuit. Thanks

Sunsynk 5kW - Charge from PV by day and discharge from batteries by night
Hi there All of this is fine, the inverter was setup to export solar --- I have since stopped that during the first week of operations once I noticed the prepaid meter was decreasing in credits. To your questions: 1) latest version : ver e419 2) yes 3) all fine there To summarize: - My Prepaid meter is programmed to treat all flow as "paid" grid flow, - Inverter was setup to export, now I have turned that off until the below is done. - Long term solution : We have started the process to apply for a bi-directional flow meter, which may just involve reprogramming the utility side meter at the fence. - Short term solution: We will also be connecting the geyser (& its timer) to the essential circuit so that it can benefit from solar energy --- and by using the schedule, have it heat up water early in the morning either from batteries or grid depending on battery level. - Once the bidirectional meter is installed, then I may return the geyer to the other circuit (grid) --- but will see later at that stage. Thanks

Sunsynk 5kW - Charge from PV by day and discharge from batteries by night
Morning, after last weeks unrest the technician is able to come out tomorrow to find a solution to stop my prepaid meter from deducting credits when I export power to my non-essential (grid) circuit. If we cannot resolve that, then I may resort to moving the geyser onto the inverter essential circuit. The geyser has a timer, so I can at least determine when I want it to come on and off, and in that way could use surplus solar to cover that load.

Sunsynk 5kW - Charge from PV by day and discharge from batteries by night
Good morning. Yes, I run 2x sunsynk 5.5kva hybrid inverters and have 5x 450w panels on mppt1 on each inverter. Works fine. As for solar only, I do not see any issue. My system runs 100% solar as soon as the batteries are fully charged. Maybe someone else who has the same setup as you described should advise too.
