Fluctuating grid frequency in Pretoria
I hope those that are unsure read this a few times. The Eskom grid runs at the same frequency as a few generators cannot pull some in a certain area lower or higher. Further for safety reasons if the frequency had to move below 49Hz by global rules the generation have to shut down and it will cause a total collapse. No supply around 49-51Hz should cause any problems or keep you awake. As @Bobster. indicated the inverter has settings at which level is should disconnect. Lastly the current amount of PV installed in SA also cannot move the grid frequency. The above is my understanding and would gladly be corrected๐

Lux power charging from AC issue
Good to see at least it is not 3 Luxpower inverters that are faulty. +1 for @JacquesVDM

30 panels to grid tied inverter
Bear in mind if this works and the generators are just idling you will find they have white smoke which is not good for them if they are diesel generators. If diesel they are most happy around 60-75% of their rated power.

Lux power charging from AC issue
Well normally if you followed the manual and any suggestions and it does not work as it should one would return it to the seller for checking of all the functions. We know any product can be dead on arrival or very ill. QA is no longer a strong point these days. Are you sure these settings are correct. Something looks odd to me. I don't know this inverter and just looking at the level of the settings.

Sunsynk 12kVa 3ph inverter reboots when grid power restores
That is the circuit breaker that feeds AC to the Sunsynk. When the power is down to the Sunsynk there is normally a 1min time that is set under settings before it reconnect to the grid. . Having said this it should run from battery in this period.

Hubble AM-5 Weird SOC Reporting
Did you make the new battery the master and the older 2 the slaves. Charge batteries normally and then run only 1 battery at a time to 100% and then disconnect it and connect the 2nd and after disconnecting the 2nd connect the 3rd. Ensure the switch settings are correct when doing this. Then connect all 3 after changing the switch settings for more than one battery as per the battery manual. Check and see if things improve.

30 panels to grid tied inverter
Yes as per the reply from @frivan. Thats why the proposed inverter is a hybrid. It runs on either grid or battery power. You can thus run it on the grid tied mode with no back up. No need to connect any loads to the UPS output side as the grid tied in and out is run from the grid input back to the DB from solar generated AC.

Inverter error
What kind of equipment/load are you running that makes up the 28-30% of the load rating of the inverter.

Sunsynk 12kVa 3ph inverter reboots when grid power restores
Weird but one wonders why does the Mecer UPS not see that there was a drop in power and beep when restored as per your lights running from the main inverter. Have you looked at what the Sunsynk screen shows when you do a manual power off and then on via your input power MCB.

Lux power charging from AC issue
Use more than one start and stop time time during the same day. Your start time is later than your stop time as it spans across 2 different days. Start it say at 00h01 to 06h00 for timer 1 and then add a 2nd start at 18h00 to 23h59 and see if it makes a difference. The idea is to start at the start of the same day.

DEYE 5 kW drawing more from grid than needed
Thanks for a good reply. I think one would normally think the 1st setting is all that is needed. The sell solar was my 1st question when we powered up the Deye when I bought it. Just glad to know how the 2 settings work in relation to each other.

Battery & Solar Questions
I would not be concerned if the panels are different as each of you MPPTs will manage it's own string as long as each of the 4 strings remain within the operating and maximum rating band. This is a general answer. Coming to the use of string with 4 panels that can be marginal in bad weather to actually start. Being 20 I would use strings with 5 panels each as long as each group of 5 in series face the same direction. Adding a different make for the 4th battery even if also 15 cells the comms between them might be a problem. Not understanding each other. @termdj Do you not have any space in a northern direction if in the southern hemisphere. This yields a bit more over the course of a day. My own view.

DEYE 5 kW drawing more from grid than needed
No response..... Just for the record the extra 40W used from grid tied in with the min power used from grid was because of the 2 solar sell options that the Zero Export to Load was ticked. This was not easy to spot during the bad PV weather last week. On Sunday with good PV the inverter started exporting in a big way. A good learning curve. Also a +1 for the current prepaid meter from Conlog. May I give a big +1 to @GreenFields for helping me out. For other members both the Solar Sell options must be unticked on the system page to prevent export and limit the always draw from grid to the level keyed in on this page.

30 panels to grid tied inverter
I agree on this one. The grid tied just places it's power on top of the grid. It is in parallel and produces pure based on the PV available up to the inverter maximum. Also they tend to be so reliable that the APP does not have to be fancy as with a full function hybrid where the battery needs to be checked from time to time. Grid tied only inverters are being sold by 1st time buyers at very low prices. I have not seen any post of a Solis 4g mini giving problems. They are super reliable. At prices on offer 2nd hand the ROI without panel cost can be as low as 1 year. The hybrid without battery is then not installed between the critic loads and the utility but in parallel to the grid.

help me problem calibration battery voltage
Have you tried just using a lower setting to compensate for the "error"

30 panels to grid tied inverter
A single 16kw inverter might not cover the 4000kwh per month. 6 x 5kw full hybrids are now so cheap that as you suggested one just use the grid tied function with no batteries and provide the best ROI. @cp69 I think your budget of R100k for 30 panels and enough inverter power to cover the 4000kwh a month is too low even at current low prices.

help me problem calibration battery voltage
I still have the old fashioned view that inverters are not calibrated instruments and the "error" of less than 1% would not bother me.

Great local support for ITS Heat Pump
So not a good 2 weeks for me after my ITS 4.7kW heat pump suddenly started to play up after 15 yrs of excellent service. It started normally and then after 3 minute when the compressor started the power shot up to 3kW from the normal 1.5kW when heating. I phoned technical support in CoCT and what a pleasure to get the correct diagnoses of the 1st item to check. Stephan a major thank you and also great that you put me in touch with Willem in Centurion. He confirmed he also thinks it could be the capacitor. It is also great to have heard that the heat pump could be checked over for a low 3 digit fee if it wasn't the capacitor as 15 yrs is already a very long time to be working nearly every day. It wasn't a great time for 2 weeks using 2-3 times more power to heat water than via an element vs the heat pump. Well what a happy ending after parting with R70 and fitting the new capacitor and it is literally pumping as good as before. A major +1 for ITS.

DEYE 5 kW drawing more from grid than needed
Hi Guys. Can some of our members please try and sort out this minor problem on the inverter. 5 kW Deye installed 2 weeks ago. Settings: Always use 50 W from the grid. The CT is fitted and works fine. Do not export to CT. Supply LOAD 1st then charge battery. Timer is not ticked to use grid when the PV kicked in. The minor grid use during the night the timer was set to keep the battery SOC at a set level which is working as it should be. The question is why is there a purchase from grid (92W) when SOC is high (66%) over the always use setting of 50W. This increase over 50W only takes place when the grid kick in. Refer to the line at 06h15 when grid use ramps up. Load is only 81W and PV 27W at this point in time. Even during the day with below 300W load and 1250W PV I find it would use say over 450W from grid and the value over the 300W load would go towards charging the battey instead of just using PV. Again the timer is disabled during this time frame. If PV is switched off the grid use drops down to the setting value of 50W from grid. The 92W is not a train smash but over 450W is getting in the high area.

Will new breakthroughs soon lower solar panel prices?
Thanks for a great insight into the global trends. We do look at it from a different angle. If the time frame was not the last 3 years then the result will be a bit different. Locally in the news. "This is according to solar industry pundits, commenting on the global oversupply of solar systems, which led to solar PV panel prices dropping by as much as 50% between January and December 2023, according to the International Energy Agency. Gregor Kuepper, MD of Solarworld Africa, points out the lower solar price is likely to remain for the next few years. โThis, combined with the decline in residential installations in the second half of 2023, created the massive drop in PV module pricing of up to 40%.โ Based on some clever guys comments I think there is still scope for lower prices but the Rand/$ might spoil the party. I think we might see a R19/$ as during January again during the year. Price in Europe for the last 13 months below.

Will new breakthroughs soon lower solar panel prices?
Not so sure I can agree on this. Panels are now much cheaper than say 18 months ago. Yes they seem to be steady now and we currently seeing batteries coming down week after week. A 450W panel is now much cheaper than even a year ago when we were still having daily LS. That even with a much weaker Rand/$ exchange rate.

Why Deye battery drains when not in use
Here you have selected the battery to remain at 100% all the time but you did not tick any grid use to keep it at 100%. Put a tick mark at GRID CHARGE. I will also reduce the 100% to 95%. On the next slide you did indicate every day. These 2 pages gives permission to charge from the grid. If I have it wrong can our thousands of users please jump in to help. By using only a 25Ah battery and some load you can expect to use nearly 80% of the battery in the period with no PV thus you HAVE to tick using grid charge to keep the inverter on. Info on slide 6.
