  1. The power landscape could look totally different in years to come. Not it looks good to be off grid but if wheeling/virtual networks take off those with space might want to be on TOU and buy during off peak to sell during peak. Hybrids would serve one well. Just a thought to have the extra functionality.
  2. 1st we had the so called report that had to be issued by an registered engineer. Cannot put it as a requirement as a COC meets the condition of the law. Then they tried to line their own pockets with the R30th fine. Let's sit back and watch the soapy unfolding going forward. Some other news out is that they might this year only sell the same GWh of power as 30 years ago. Can such a business survive with less customers and still wanting to increase the free power for the poor. The rich customers they showed the door are all off the grid.
  3. Thanks. The sooner we take notice of the law the less we will stress. Eskom and the metros cannot issue fines or make new laws to empower them to make new laws to suit them. We can now see the tricks why energy consultants were calling for consumers to go off the grid going back about 5 yrs.
  4. I doubt that running the mentioned items in the kitchen at the same time is harvesting the maximum saving which for some people is important. My 36 units a month saving by being off grid is more than my actual grid use of say 50W from grid all the time. When my grid is on then it is on pass through as I see it. I don't use the grid for charging but keep a high enough SOC if the power has to go off. I don't think switching the grid off via a smart switch is complicated.
  5. There are many brands of smart switches or smart MCBs. Here is one. I have say 3 x 5kwh batteries but they are old and perhaps only 3-4kwh. There is not setting for the 95%. I decide based on my PV, battery SOC and weather and set my timer on the inverter and smart timer what hours to switch on the grid.
  6. I s running a 5kW Deye off grid 95% of the time. Saves me drawing the 36 units a month from grid by using 50W from grid to prevent export. I run any kitchen gadgets at night and also my lawn mower during sun periods. Everything is on the UPS circuit. What I do 50% of the evening period is to switch on my grid to keep the battery at a good SOC for during the night via a smart switch on the grid input. This switch is also timed to have my grid on from 04h00 to 08h30. Some morning it would use as little as 100Wh to keep to my SOC. This mostly when fridges start that it gets some assistance from the grid. The last 3 days I had to use grid even during the day due to the cloud. This cost me about 3 units a day. Up to Monday I only used 1 unit from the beginning of the month from the grid. Yes I use grid the way it suits me and not how Eskom would prefer.
  7. AFAIK the address is at a retail Mall. Thus there could be over 100 businesses with the same address.
  8. Not sure if you are looking for leads. My 1st choice for a medium size system would be the Deye 6kW off grid inverter that can operate from 125V being 3 panels and can accept up to 12kW in PV.
  9. Enjoy the new toys 😀
  10. I presume Powerforum closes the business at 17h00 today so only 40min left before the announcement is made. Hahaha @Energy-Jason
  11. AFAIK he is well and still recovering.
  12. It might help if you provide the battery settings on the inverter as well as the JK BMS. Also provide the model for the JK.
  13. I guess you gave a wrong number? Is it not 082..........
  14. I have a Sun-5k-sg01lp1EU which I have never heard the fan but under certain conditions a electronic buzz is heard but it is just audible. At the moment under low load it is quit at 29dB right next to the inverter. 4m away my fridge is running at 33dB.
  15. Currently there is a 1.1kW Solis for R2500 that was used on a Deye and is no longer needed to provide more PV charging. Just activate Micro inverter and provide the required settings on the Deye /Sunsynk screen.
  16. This is a easy add on. As the Solis 4G mini is such a reliable inverter I would look at sites selling them 2nd hand. Price will be around R3000. Start up voltage is around 120V iirc. No need for a CT to prevent export as the Sunsynk will control the export.

  18. Negative load would in most if not all cases refer to a CT that is connected the wrong way round. Arrow must point to inverter.
  19. It is normal to show a low 1W if in fact the value is zero. These are the options on a Sunsynk. The Deye might just use different descriptions. On this form untick the Gen option and tick the Aux Load setting. Also supply a value like over 500W for a test. This can the be changed later. Also try with a wider setting for between which levels PV should provide a output to the Aux port. Hope this helps.
  20. Can I just add we find PCBs made to order where they at times make the tracks thinner and that affects us as we measure a volt drop to simulate the current drawn by devices. This is against our spec. Anything to lower their cost. Not fun to have to change SMD resistors due to this problem. Aluminium is half the price of copper and we know how much cables are used world wide. $$$$ at stake.
  21. Refer to my post with the 3 pictures showing no tinned strands.
  22. They say a picture is worth more than a 1000 words. This picture looks very much like the 5mm cable in the 1st post. When we strip the insulation we find no tinned copper but shining copper strands. Should we use sandpaper on the strands this is what we get. When a very good crimp with the correct cable sizes overheats suspect that it could be aluminium copper coated conducters.
  23. The inside of the wire strands will not be greyish in color when you cut it if it was copper.. Those strands will have a copper color on the outside and greyish on the inside which means they are not tinned.
  24. Just a bit of junk info related to the picture. The supplied cable of 5 mm² seems to be coated aluminium which has a higher resistance and a lower current rating than copper. This is something one would normally get to save cost by China manufacturers. This one can normally only see once you cut it. With car jumper leads one will also get a thick insulation of pvc to make you think it is a thick conductor.
