New solar installation
Hi. Dylan here, owner of EcoHub, mentioned above. Just came across this thread. The 3.6kw Sunsynk which we sell is an All in One system, not a standalone inverter. The system has a 3.6kw inverter and 3.8kwh battery built in. This is a small system suited to student accommodation / small apartments. The 6kw inverter is the SUNSYNK Powerlynk Lynks 6kw Hybrid Inverter. These were introduced late 2024 if I remember correctly and replaced the popular 5kw Sunsynk inverters. I've noticed that customers are often confused - I believe there is also a 6kw all in one system (includes battery), and a 3.6kw hybrid (inverter only). We have not stocked these two items in the past.

Geyser repair / upgrade to solar
apparently insurance doesn't cover the actual geyser... so the 'like for like' geyser replacement doesn't come into play. may as well research this properly and go with the right thing, as opposed to rushing off to buy a similar replacement tomorrow

Geyser repair / upgrade to solar
Thanks for all the replies. I'll go over them this evening. So the geyser is gone. Have not yet put in an insurance claim, as I'm sure they'll just replace it with a similar one. It's 150L - don't think I really needs such a big geyser. Small household. Guess I can now consider all options.

Geyser repair / upgrade to solar
Thanks for the feedback. Plumber came around this morning. The element is still fine. Another part he needs to replace. Doesn't sound too serious. Am still keen to look at upgrades to this system at some point. Not too keen on going the gas geyser route. Seems a hassle to replace the large gas bottles, and I stay in a farming village, where the outdoor geysers, bottles etc tend to get stolen.

Geyser repair / upgrade to solar
Seems I have an issue with my geyser. Warm water continually been thrown out of overflow pipe. For now I've turned the geyser and my mains off. Plumber is coming to look in the morning. I think it did the same thing a few years back, and I ended up having to put a new element in. I'm wondering about a more energy efficient upgrade, considering repairs would need to be done anyway. My solar setup at home is relatively small, but I am mostly off-grid. 5kw inverter with 15kwh battery capacity and 8 panels. Just my geyser that's running directly off the grid. Leaving the geyser on permanently I'm averaging around R400pm on elec, which I don't think is too bad. Running a 1.1kw pool pump most of the day and a small aircon most summer nights. I've considered putting 2nd inverter in, and doubling up on panels, with additional batteries. (not keen to rush this, as I have another property behind mine, where I'll likely put in a bigger system) Wondering about the geyser options - I have plenty of space for panels. Perhaps a setup where the geyser has a few dedicated panels? Any suggestions on a setup where the geyser will pull what it can from a few panels, and draw the balance from the grid? Not too keen to take power from the current solar setup as I am just getting by with that. Not sure on the current geyser size - will check that in the morning.

Centurion motors - Automate - Android Auto
I have 3 Centurion gate motors. 2 x D5 Smart, and installing the D6 smart at the property behind my house. Busy building a garage and planning to use a Centurion SD04 Phone connects to the gate motors via bluetooth. What's the best way to go about getting these linked to Android Auto. Suppose you'd need some hardware? I have a couple of Sonoff devices around the house.

New Garage Automation / Ideas ?
Hi Just busy with foundation for a new garage. Don't quite have space for a full double garage. I need storage space. So the width will be just short of a double garage. Single garage door with a good amount of storage space to the side. Trying to decide on the garage door motor, automations etc. I have Centurion D5 smart motors at 2 properties. They seem to work well. Easy to configure via the app. So was thinking of going for Centurion product for the garage door. Pool pump and a few other devices on Sonoff. The garage will have access from my office. I'll be walking in the for work regularly. Putting a proper ceiling in there, and like the idea of downlights in the ceiling, perhaps with a motion sensor? Any other cool ideas for a new garage?

Best Aircon for a bedroom?
Thanks. Am having a look.

Best Aircon for a bedroom?
I am running the Huawei iSitePower-M 5kw inverter with 15kwh battery storage. (My company sells them, I might put another system in parallel, 2 batteries each) I went with slightly smaller panels so that I could fit in 2 rows of 4, on the north facing roof. So I have 8 x 425W Trina panels up. I've been considering one of the Daikin 9000 btu units for the bedroom. So suppose that solar panel kw doesn't matter much, as this is for the bedroom and would be running at night.

Best Aircon for a bedroom?
Thought I'd post here as running the aircon off the inverter is a consideration. My current system at home is 5kw with 15kwh battery capacity. I run the house including 1.1kw pool pump without issue. During the day while the pump is running my power consumption typically sits at around 1.35kw I want to get an aircon put into my bedroom... gets too hot here in Jan-March. Possibly also one in the office. So would likely be running the bedroom one off battery power and the office one off panels. Both are fairly small rooms. The bedroom is approx 12 square metres. What is the best aircon for a bedroom? Also, I am surrounded by farms and struggle with allergies. Perhaps a unit that also purifies the air? (seen Daikin units clean the air?) I do have a standalone air purifier in the room, but would prefer to have less appliances running in the room. Also of importance. Being able to switch off aircon lights during night time operation Wifi connection / Google home integration. (not essential, but would be nice) Quiet - not blowing air into your face while sleeping. Thanks!

Pool Pump & Lights - Smart Wifi Switches
I need to redo my pool pump wiring. I want to put a wifi controller in for the pump, lights etc. Possibly put in a connection point for some garden lighting while I'm busy with this. I have a 1,1kw pump. I have a few new/unused Sonoff devices at home. An electrician I spoke to also suggested the CBI Astute Wifi controller. I like the idea of being able to use the physical remote control on the pool pump. I have a the following: Sonoff 4CHPRO with RF control This has the RF channel, but it's only 10amp, so I am not sure it's suitable for the pool pump. Sonoff THR320 + Temperature sensor and extension cable I wanted to connect the temperature probe and put a panel in the braai room showing the pool temp etc. I see this one is 20A, so that would work with the pump. I don't see any mention of this working with the remote control though. I have been looking at the following devices: Sonoff POWR320D That's 20A and has power monitoring, which seems useful for alerts on the pool pumps power consumption. This could be used to trigger an alert if the pump isn't working correctly. I don't see any mention of the remote working with this though? Sonoff POW R3 25A 5500W Smart Switch I looked at this, but don't see an RF function I might try setting it up so that the pump only starts once the sun comes out and the solar panels are working.. so perhaps a scenario based on UV index, cloud cover, rain etc. Not sure what the options are here. Any suggestions? What do you find works best?
