  1. I have both and can use them and they use the exact same data. The Deye giving only vts on the summary screen with no decimal is useless for lithium. The Solarman APP is miles better. Also as you will see on the APP download page how many people complain that the Deye is slow. Very very true. Also the graphs on the Deye I think is low grade with their lack of scroll or pinch zoom. Just my personal 2c.
  2. It seems it is all about what one finds important. Choices. Some guys will not even look at the APP for a week or more. Others every 30min or hour. When we have full sunshine days I have no real need to look at the APP. I might even look more on the screen to get the value of PV yield for the day when I walk past my inverter when getting home at night. This tells me what my SOC should be.
  3. May be I am missing something but not easy for the Sonoff to only cut off the stove without affecting the other essential loads. I would rather use the CBI load switch to switch off the stove when other loads are drawing current above a set value. No manual intervention/remote functionality.
  4. I feel I need to differ. The overload setting is in the Sonoff unit and even when there is no Internet it will still switch off the stove. Only the remote control function will not work if no Internet. Once switched off you will have to use the manual switch on again. As one would normally keep the WiFi on it should work fine.

What I don't see here is actually doing a short circuit test on the panels or even using a 3-4 ohm high wattage resistor at peak production to verify that the panels can indeed supply more current than the clipping value indicated. We work around the spec volts and currents. I have 1 panel I bought new but the seller indicated it was below spec on voltage and current and gave a discount. This was perhaps applicable on a whole container which I would not know. Mine gives about 80% output but other members on this forum were not so lucky and got real scrap panels and after trying hard they did get a refund. Although it does seem like clipping takes place the one suggestion not mentioned is to find out what the maximum current is that those panels can provide. It could be that the MPPT level is reached at the current value when it starts clipping. Best would be at peak production level to do a short circuit test but only for a few seconds to be able to read the current with a clamp meter. Then only can one isolate the clipping to be inverter related.
  6. Yes the Solis mini is much slower due to its vintage than the current range of inverters. The aux input is a great feature of the current tech in inverters.
  7. @GreenFields Very well assumed as I also understand the actual wiring. All well indicated. As a ex used ofthe Solis mini for 5 yrs before my Deye I agree on your whole input and a great input for other that would like to use a Solis mini. This is a cheap way of using a external MPPT via AC coupling. 2nd hand these Solis inverters are very cheap.
  8. Although maximum current is 100A they rate it at 5kW maximum according to their specs.

From the value of 2330Wh per 10 degrees you can calculate the power needed once you have data of what temp the geyser is during to early mornings in order to get to your desired temp for the morning showers. Also based on the replies the battery SOC in the winter is important as you did indicate the summer time the battery is full. Winter can be the killer as well as the area you reside. The after the midday run in winter would be the stat to use or the 00h00 SOC to have some idea of power used from battery during the cooking run at night as the value used by the kitchen can vary like a piece of string. Cooking chicken in the oven can be 60min yet doing prego roll fillets might need only 15min for 4-6 pieces. Add rice and potatoes can add another 15min each on a stove plate. Not much power but all adds up.
  10. Surely there will be a way of managing it via the Transmission system. LS as we have know it. Those of us exporting power do so even when we have LS while we have grid. It still remains a sum of the whole available power. For decades those in the industry complained that the power ESK Transmission were charging too much to transport power if one looked how much they internally paid the ESK generation business unit to what they were selling to major consumers. My thought will be that resellers are the ones buying in bulk and selling to customers very much like banks are issuing SIMS but using the mobile cell networks or the way some cell ISPs use roaming where they don't have their own towers Welcome to the ZA with major wheeling just as ESK have been wheeling from up north to the south with most generation from the coal fields in the old Transvaal.
  11. My own thoughts will be that the IPPs that tendered to supply will be at a x rate and what they supply is metered. Thus the power network is intact even if the generation as we know it now is on low capacity. Eskom just becomes a supplier as others will be into the network.
  12. Well articulated but we need more data. Are the 10kWh batteries fully charged in winter? I guess not. If not then PV is the cheaper option. If they there will not be enough PV in order to add another battery. As requested much earlier one needs more data to give good guidance.
  13. Just break the 2P and run each set of 8S and compare them if they face in the same direction. Once you know which string you can do the 4S one by one and compare again.
  14. Surely contracts in place will run their course. I read it as a transmission group and various producers can now tender their power for the 6 hour blocks at different prices. Eskom did do it in house decades ago. High cost power stations would supply when there are generators that faulted.
  15. Is the 3kW Axpert a 48V? The input via Aux port can only be a grid tied or true hybrid. I would settle for a grid tied with internal MPPT tracker instead of separate MPPTs. Solis 4G mini comes to mind and they are super reliable.

  17. I read the problem as the capacity of the battery being low for the morning heating. Small value element would need longer run time but use the same energy. The gas geyser in series would solve this problem as mentioned earlier. It need not be a big unit.
  18. Great answer to this winter problem. In line with one of my minor problems. I want to move panels from car port to a massive N facing roof but the bit I have to use grid does not warrant the cost of rewiring and all the hardware. It could take 10yrs for a ROI. We have a stable grid and I could adapt and found out on the single days I forgot to switch my PV on after big electric storms.
  19. Just a warning. A heat pump is great and I have mine now for 14yrs. In winter with temps at close to zero the COP can be as low as 1 and in summer 3-4 times or more for a modern unit. Thus the heat pump does not help for winter.
  20. Perhaps add the area you reside in if you need values of yield as it's no use quoting in Gauteng and you in the Cape. Winter there is like being in darkness compared to Gauteng๐Ÿ˜‚ I have used this external method with success.
  21. Do I understand correctly that if one cell has lower capacity the BMS with comms would slow down charging of the other 13/14/15 cells in order to help this weak cell? Would the weak cell not in any case even at low charge rate go into OV and then the BMS will still open circuit the battery even with comms?
  22. Due to this 36V limitation I suggested the M602 model that switches 230V AC that one can then drive a beefier relay to the geyser.
  23. Yes the 1st statement is true until the BMS fails and one does not see it early. Just look at the cycles under BRANDS LBSA how well @Antonio de Sa batteries are doing using voltage control.
  24. They is as indicated. This to me is one of the greatest feature of the Sunsynk profile. A number of times when I am not sure if the battery would last during the early hours I find that it uses as little as 100Wh just to keep the battery at the set SOC until PV can take over.
  25. Surely 34W standing load on a 8kW system that can on average over a year produce 40kWh a day(Gauteng) is counting the last cent in the wallet every day.
