Extensions are used for temporary supply to equipment. No fixed installation with them. Rather use surfix or twin and earth.
Yes you are spot on the just provide DC to the cameras.
  2. Thanks

As for the switch(I'm not an electrician nor do i have all the sans codes) but it seems the sans 164-1 plugs was the main issue as there was a possibility to touch the terminals while being unplugged. They are sort of phased out. The newer ones 'sans 164-2' has this sorted so the plug is already disconnected before the live terminal is exposed.
My guess is 164-1 needs an isolator whereas 164-2 dont. I might be wrong though, so better let an informed sparky answer to this.
As for the dc, even wired cameras has dc wires to them and i dont think it's covered by coc, afaik because you can unplug the power supply it's not considered part of the site's wireing, also 12v dc is not considered dangerous to a person.
Again, please confirm with an qualified electrician before installing solely on my limited knowledge.

Yep they are the new legal sockets Sans 164-2 as @mbznhas pointed out. Ceiling socket outlets are allowed if properly secured and covered( enclosure) on the inside of the ceiling. If have seen ceiling sockets in office blocks with pull down cords for cleaning crews at night. Picture of similar installation i am referring to.

So this is just an idea for people who are looking at reducing your geyser's power usage.

My geyser was replaced by insurance and they refused to place it inside the house again (flat roof), and so it was installed on top. Now I haven't seen geysers specifically for outside use, and so the first thing I did was to put a geyser blanket on. Well that lasted about 2 months (The blanket was not made for "outside use", and crumbled). I did however install a geyserwise timer, and set it to only run between 04:00 - 07:00, and 16:00 - 19:00 daily. (geyser set to 55 degrees)

As winter dragged on, I monitored the temperature and noticed that overnight, just prior to the element kicking in, the temperature would be at 23 - 25 degrees. This meant a delta of 30 - 32 Degrees.
As builders / leroy merlin did not have an "external" blanket, I decided to DIY something myself. I bought some aerolite (the thickest one I could get), and bought a strip of the galvanized sheet from the pet store (They use is for bird cages).
I have noticed that my geyser is now running between 35 - 37 degrees prior to "switch on", which to me is MUCH better (delta now 18 - 20 degrees). I still have to see how much it saves though.

Our govt is missing a huge opportunity. We are faced with increased load shedding. Normal people, like us, can contribute immensely if they just change policies to make it easy and effortless to register a solar system and allow feedback to the grid. Instead of them spending billions to build new power stations (which they still have to do btw) and waiting 10-15 years for full production, domestic solar systems are already online and ready to feed-in to the grid.
There are 1000's of installations that are not permitted to feed-in. Look at the US for instance, they get govt rebate of up to 30% of their cost if they install a system and it is signed off. And then on top of it a lot of power companies give them a 1:1 tariff, meaning whatever they feed-in they can use again.
I saw that Dear South Africa sent an email comms which indicates that the govt is exploring urgent ways of easing load shedding. Well, the solution is already at their disposal... Just make it easy for people to register their systems and feed-in and GIVE INCENTIVES to those that do...
Our municipality has been "busy" drafting PV regulations for the past 10 years and still nothing on the table, but we have some of the most expensive electricity in the region... Govt policies are full of red tape which put a spanner in the wheels of progress.

The Sunsynk Portal Stats just don't do it for me anymore
Misses a lot of detailed stats. It is more for averaging than anything else.
Supposedly a premium brand but still the same chineesi style el-cheepo energy portal
All it's really good for is firmware upgrades.
