Does anyone know of a link to the latest firmware for the Axpert 5kVA / PIP 4048 ?  I have spent a significant amount of time searching the Internet without success.
I have 72.70 but would like to test a newer version.

There is no rocket science to what I am planning, I intend using a contactor with 2x n/o and 2x n/c contacts to perform the changeover role currently performed by the Axpert, thereby allowing my system to be classified as off-grid instead of the bogus grid-tied classification they currently choose to apply.


With the above arrangement there will be no point where the Axpert setup comes into contact with the grid. I understand that I may have to register as an SSEG (eventually), but as an off-grid setup there will be no dealing with ineffective council, no tariff changes and no engineer sign-off, I will do my own COC.
I dont want to go the route suggested by TTT because I am currently on prepaid and average about R250/m over the year at a low unit cost because of my low usage - the moment I am classed as grid-tied I will attract a high monthly connection fee, higher unit costs, and jump through various impossibly tight hoops - no thanks, I HATE red tape!
The perceived downside is that I wont have grid charge available, but I charge solar only so if the C/O is successful it will have zero effect on my current situation which is very effective.
The only "development" that I need to do is to try and get a changeover setup that will allow the operation without affecting PC's/TV;s/Decoder/Amps etc - failing which I will need to install UPS's which I am trying to avoid. I was hoping to do some experimentation this weekend but life intervened.

True, I also have a somewhat naughty habit of only upgrading kernels if there is a remote vulnerability (as opposed to a local vulnerability, where you use existing access to escalate privileges). I further distinguish between updates that affect an actual protocol/driver I am using, and if the particular patch is not to something I actually use I will skip it. With that said.... here's a particularly bad sounding one...

Yes, relatively old, but solid.  The newer kernels support upgrading while still running, so no reboot needed to upgrade kernels.

Ever since I discovered that the Axpert has worthless state of charge(SOC) readings I have felt that with a bit of lateral thinking one could develop a reasonably accurate SOC from the battery amp readings that are readily available from the inverter. After all it does have an internal shunt and so should be able to give us some sense of SOC. I have been playing with data from Emoncms and this is the result.
 
I include the feed from the BMV and the inverter's own SOC calculation for comparison. I am pleased with the result. The first thing I did was convert my battery bank Ah value into Ampseconds. I did this for two reasons:
The handling of the data after this conversion was relatively simple Converting the Amp feed into Ah resulted in small numbers which of had a recurring decimal number which the computer would truncate and introduce errors. So I have upgraded (not really) and have a 936000As battery bank. It looks impressive but it is not really. If anyone is prepared to send me the data from their inverter I would like to test my ideas on more data - preferably from one 100% SOC peak through one or two charge cycles until a 100% SOC is achieved again. I would need inverter battery amps and BMV SOC for this period.

I have attached Data sheets for Vision AGM, OmniPower AGM/GEL and Deltec-Betta Lead Crystal (because I like looking at pictures). Note that the data is manufacturers claim and may be complete nonsense, however both Sinetech and Deltec seem to be reputable organizations and if Vision are lying they could have done a much better job of it.
At 50% DOD which is available on all 3 documents the comparison is as follows;
Vision AGM                               1200cycles OmniPower AGM/GEL               about 1600cycles Deltec-Betta Lead Crystal         also about 1600cycles Now the Omni is about 20% more expensive than the Vision so that ratio seems reasonable - but the Deltec-Betta is more than double the cost of the Omni so that seems out of whack to me.
If you are in a camping situation with low tech charging equipment (often just the alternator) and little knowledge of how to treat your batteries then maybe the Lead Crystal famed ability to take 100% DOD in its stride makes it a worthwhile investment, but I think in a home solar situation which should be a more carefully controlled environment I dont believe that they offer sufficient added value to warrant the cost.
I haven't included any flooded cell data because I am far to lazy to run around filling cells and measuring specific gravity and suchlike unseemly behaviors.

I have just found the solution and posting it here for the benefit of anyone else struggling with this error.
The regsvr32.exe command has to be run as Administrator when updating the SCC otherwise it does not have the permission on to install.
