  1. Just an update. I asked Solar Assistant if they would be able to crimp the cable for me. They obliged. So R689 for the cable, crimping and delivery overnight. Pins 4 and 5 were crimped exactly as above. Cable works great and SolisCloud now updates via the dongle again. So the RS485 cable is definitely the best option for SolarAssistant since it will keep SolisCloud communication intact for ease of changing settings and receiving alarms
  2. I have attached what Solis sent me. Solar assistant actually confirmed it for me. I asked about the earth wire and they said that's not needed. So I will confirm if this works when I get cable and find someone who can crimp for me and I will report back
  3. I did actually get the info from Solis on Friday about what pins to crimp the rs485 wires into. Just need to order the cable from solar assistant and find someone to crimp it for me
  4. I have the same problem. I am currently connected with the WiFi dongle but then yes soliscloud no longer updates and you cannot remotely control. That is why I want to rather use the cable to hopefully get around this issue.
  5. Hi, I have a Solis S6 Pro Does any know the pins to use for the 3 wires for the RS485 to USB connection to use for Solar Assistant Regards, Mark.
  6. Sorry for resurrecting a very old post. I am having this exact same issue. Inverter restarts when moving from Grid to Battery or Battery to Grid. But only when solar is turned on. If I flip breaker for solar to disconnect then the problem does not occur. Was this ever resolved?
  7. Hi, Does anyone know of someone who does Axpert Inverter Repairs in Johannesburg? My inverter had an Error F51 which is for overload/surge. The booklet said to try restart the inverter which I did. Then there was some popping and what looked like might be white powder. Not sure if it could be something as simple as a fuse or possibly much worse.
  8. Yes I am sure they are. I have read that the various surge plugs can cause a little leakage which can add up and splitting into multiple RCD's is also an option. I was hoping someone might have had experience with these other specials RCD's . I have also read that people recommended anti-nuisance RCD's such as these: https://www.se.com/ww/en/product/A9R61263/residual-current-circuit-breaker-rccb-acti9-iid-2p-63a-asi-type-30ma/ https://new.abb.com/products/2CSF202401R1630/f202-a-63-0-03-ap-r
  9. I have an Kodak Axpert Max but this is on my DB board where the earth leakage trips and my inverter does not run from this DB either (and its installed before earth leakage). The issue with tripping after load shedding has been a long standing issue for me with load shedding even from before I had the inverter.
  10. Hi, I just wanted to find out if others are having issues with their earth leakage tripping after load shedding is restored and possible solutions. I assume it has to do with small surges on power restore as the condition does not occur if I switch on and off at the mains outside. I have googled and read forums and seems like there are some possible options others have used and just wanted to get some feedback I have a CBI earth leakage and some have complained they are not great quality and swopping with a different brand earth leakage resolved their issue Has anyone had experience with the impulse resistant type earth leakages such as https://www.gewiss.com/ww/en/products/product.1000001.1000062.GWD4208 . they are supposed to be more resistant to these types of trips. I asked ACDC about them but they haven't had any experience Use a trip connect switch with a delay such as https://surgeprotection.co.za/products/12-01036-tripconnect-1p . By adding a delay then the surges can be past by the time it re-engages the earth leakage I just wanted to know if there were others experiencing this issue and if they had managed to sort it out and if anyone can comment on the products above if they have experience
  11. I really have to really recommend @Steve87. I had done a self installation. He came and helped me earth my system and do some other small touch ups to make sure it is complaint and safe. He didn't even want to be paid for his time. He is so helpful and so knowledgeable and truly wants to do a good job and teach as much as he can in the process. You really don't get service like this out there. So for anyone needing any solar work done I strongly recommend you contact him.
  12. Hi, I have 2 Hubble S120 batteries running my series on my 24v system. I have reached out to Hubble twice to get charge settings for the batteries and they keep just giving me the 12v charge settings: 14.4 Bulk 14 Float 11.2 Cut off Would I simply just double all those values for the settings to run in 24v? Then I have also asked them what currently I can charge the batteries at but they keep not answering that question. Does anyone know the charge settings for 24v for these batteries and what current I can safely charge at?
  13. Hi, Can anyone make any recommendations for a solar installer in Johannesburg. Would need to install panels, inverter and do the electrical and provide a COC
  14. Hi, I would like to install some solar panels for my 24V system. 30 ~ 80 VDC. 40A. 1300W. Can anyone recommend best brands for solar panels. Also can anyone comment on their experience with mono vs poly. I have read conflicting reviews and was wondering if anyone had some experience.
  15. Hi, I am looking to purchase some solar panels is the to make up 1300W for my MPPT (30 ~ 80 VDC, max 40A). What brands are best to go with or doesn't it really matter? I have read conflicting reviews on mono vs poly and which is better. They seem roughly similarly priced. Has anyone had experience with both and if mono does outperform poly? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
  16. I have a quick question I have an Axpert with lithium batteries. The inverter can charge at max 25A from AC but I could charge with a much higher amp on the lithiums Am I able to connect an additional AC charge controller to the batteries such as this: https://www.livestainable.co.za/product/victron-energy-blue-smart-ip22-24-81-230v-cee-7-7-battery-charger/?gclid=Cj0KCQjw_4-SBhCgARIsAAlegrXiFk9jAB-HRs13msKP6Do_cIm3gMDZ6GiRLmeLNkWgkm0CywIXrYoaAp99EALw_wcB
  17. Thanks very much. I also wanted to confirm if the USB port will work. They seem to now come with a Micro USB that is used for updating firmware. Will the USB port also still work for communication with the Pi?
  18. Hi, I just had a quick question. I currently have a 1000W Axpert inverter that I am using a rasberry pi via the USB Type B port and python script to communicate with the inverter and do a bunch of things for me. I was looking at upgrading my system to an Axpert King. I just wanted to find out if they come with the same port and communication protocol for me to call the QPIGS function as I am currently doing?
  19. I currently have a 12v Axpert with 600W PWM charger and 600W of panels connected I just replaced my Lead Acid Batteries with a Hubble S120 Lithium battery and so far its running nicely. I use it mainly for load shedding but also the extended outages we seem to have more frequently these days in jhb. I mainly run small loads....TV, router, laptop etc and sometimes a PC or 2. I would like to upgrade to a second Hubble battery mainly for the extended outages. I would however also love to be able to upgrade my solar but am currently at the limit of the inverter I have a few choices and would like some advice on the pros and cons of each: 1) I could simply get a second Hubble battery and connect in parallel but I wouldn't be able to upgrade my solar 2) I could get a 3Kva 24 inverter with a 1200-1500 MPPT solar charger. This would allow me to charge the batteries at a higher current from DC (Currently my 1000w only allows 20A) and would allow me to upgrade my solar array. I would have to replace my 12V panels though. I would then connect the 2 Hubble batteries in series. Here I wanted to know the pros and cons of going to a 24v system with batteries in series. I see on the specs for the Hubble batteries I would need a cell balancer if connecting in series. Is this recommended? Where do I get one? How much are they? I tried to find but could only find battery balancers, not cell balancers. How do I connect it to the batteries? 3) Is it possible to get a separate MPPT charge controller with a new set of panels and connect that in parallel with my inverter so both the PWM of the inverter and the MPPT charge controller can both charge the batteries together? So that way the PWM in the inverter can be used to run the load and excess charge batteries and the separate MPPT controller can charge the batteries. Does this work? Also do you know if Axpert inverters are able to charge from petrol generators? I see the new ones say they they charge from AC or generator power. Not sure about my 1000W 12V.
  20. Hi, I have my own small DIY solar setup. I just wanted to find out what is the best way to ground my solar panels. What is the best way to connect to earth wire to the panels Any help is greatly appreciated.
  21. Also with the PWM charger it will try charge the battery with a voltage of just over the currently voltage of the battery. But the BMS would want a specific constant voltage. Would the battery even charge?
  22. I'm not 100% sure. I came across one article earlier that said the BMS will protect the battery but its the pulsating of the PWM that is the problem and something about when the battery is full the BMS will cut off the charge and without having the battery in the equation it could damage the charger. But I'm really not too sure. I probably need to research more
  23. My Axpert inverter has a PWM solar charger to which I have panels connected. I just found you cannot use a PWM charger for lithium batteries. My setup is mainly for load shedding but I do use the solar during extended outages. So unfortunately I don't think lithium will actually be an option for me which is a big pity.
  24. Thanks very much. I did look for 12v Lithium batteries before but couldn't find any. I'm glad you have mentioned these to me. I know Lithium charges a bit differently, do you know what charge voltages to use for them? Do you know what dod would be safe to use on them?
  25. I currently have 2x100ah royal 1111k batteries to keep me going during load shedding. Even though the inverter cuts out at 50% dod they have not lasted very well. I need to replace them. Can anyone recommend some decent 12v 100ah batteries? Can anyone comment on the royal dc31 batteries? A few said they are better than the 1150k batteries I came across.
