Thanks for pointing me to this cable, nothing wrong with this one, somehow I completely overlooked this.
Combined with a rpi and a bit of wifi I'll be able to keep tabs on things from afar, this installation is about 50m from the house.

We know that battery life is limited, even Li Ion batteries, if you are going to max the range every day, deep Dod, or if you are parking in the sun during the day and the batteries heat up during summer then you should definitely not expect the batteries to last much beyond the guarantee.

"Mya was playing around, and she coated this whole thing with a very thin gel layer and started to cycle it,” said Penner, chair of UCI’s chemistry department. “She discovered that just by using this gel, she could cycle it hundreds of thousands of times without losing any capacity.”
“That was crazy,” he added, “because these things typically die in dramatic fashion after 5,000 or 6,000 or 7,000 cycles at most.”
The researchers think the goo plasticizes the metal oxide in the battery and gives it flexibility, preventing cracking.
“The coated electrode holds its shape much better, making it a more reliable option,” Thai said. “This research proves that a nanowire-based battery electrode can have a long lifetime and that we can make these kinds of batteries a reality.”"

We launching the online shop very soon, shall I post prices straight from our importers in the interim.
We believe we will have the super best prices in SA to empower every one, This is the goal.
    Hoping this can help you,

Out of interest.  I run an electric gate (12V ET Gate Motor) off a 102ah Sealed Lead Acid Battery, 15A Controller and 100W solar panel.  I also have an LED floodlight (12V, 10W) which comes on for 3 min every time the gate is opened.  Easily manages this...

Mike mentioned a while ago that he occasionally had loads of more than 4KW connected to the infini 3KW Plus he tested, so when I got home yesterday afternoon I thought I'd do some testing.

From a past experience I have overloaded the infini while we had loadshedding late on a Saturday afternoon - it tripped when the load was about 3.5KW, but auto-restarted and kept on tripping and restarting every few seconds until I lowered the load, so in yesterday's test I switched off all the circuit breakers to all the plug circuits except for the two circuits I've connected the test loads to - don't want to kill a fridge or something else because of the inverter switching on and off.

I then connected my toaster oven (for PC board soldering), a kettle full of water and a vacuum cleaner, all on the infini output while the GRID WAS AVAILABLE and while I still got just under 1KW from the PV panels - the infini handled the total load of just over 5KW without tripping and according to the KW meter I have installed between the infini and the grid, the infini drew the balance of about 4.2KW from the grid. It took about 4 minutes for the water to boil and then the load dropped to just below 3KW.

Hope this helps a few people when they have to decide if it is worth while spending double the amount of cash on an Imeon...

    Thumbs up for the infini.

This is the fundamental challenge that most tree huggers don't understand when they advocate 100% renewables.

bmeagle reacted to Jakes in Boiling water. What's best?
Thanks for the inputs. Much appreciated.

Doing some calculations I arrive at the following:

We've got 23.76kWh of battery capacity. (12 Narada 12V/165Ah's. They call them REX-C200's)

The (2kW) kettle boils water for 2 cups of tea in 2 minutes, which would use around 0.07kWh.

If we would only want to drain the battery pack down to 50% of its capacity, it would mean that boiling the kettle once would drain 0.6% of the available 12kWh of the battery pack.

I think we can peacefully carry on drinking.

bmeagle reacted to Gnome in Meanwell Inverters
I did a fairly extensive investigation into which inverter to buy.

Meanwell, Cotek (also sold as Thor, Samlex and Go Power!), Victron, Outback and SMA are the classic "high quality" brands.

VoltronicPower is a new comer from China, started not too long ago. But their Axpert/Mecer/PIP/Gaint (eg. sold under various brands) is very high quality also.

IMO the Axpert is a better product than the Meanwell. The charger has higher capacity and overall the design seems more modern.
