DEYE 8kW - MPPT - Current Clipping

Featured Replies

I have a fairly new Deye 8kW system - installed in December 2022 and I also have clipping at 20A. My theoretical max is 26A.

The clipping happens on my North string which comprises of 12 x 545w panels (2series strings in parallel)

My South string has 6 x 545w panels and is pretty useless in winter.

  • You are spot on that the current 2 strings in parallel can never match what you get if the E and N would be put in series. In the morning the N panels would throttle the good output of the E string. I

Hi All

I have an Deye 8kW hybrid inverter that was installed in December. On one of the MPPTs I have two PV strings paralleled. Now, according to the inverter datasheet, the current will be clipped at 22 Amps, what I am seeing in my data is that the current is being clipped at 20 Amps.

Has anybody else seen this happening? I suspect my inverter might need a firmware update or what else could be causing the issue?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards,

Freakazoid

Since I have the same problem, I contacted Deye support and they have updated the firmware to increase the pv current to "that stated in the manual" In my manual that is 22A but the online manual states 26A. I am waiting for an ideal sunny day to see what it tops out at.

Did this work?  Which firmware version did they upgrade you to?  Did you have any other issues with the firmware?

There is also a current figure printed on the right side of the inverter.

My understanding is that the Parallel strings you connect onto a single Mppt still needs to be identical. i.t.o. size, specs, orientation even. Because the max Power point control applies to 1 string's best case curve, and cant cater the same setting for different facing strings to charge optimally.

My understanding is that from the inverters point of view, the 1 mppt sees 1 input ( sum of 2 parallel strings) it cannot differentiate between the 2 strings, so if the strings are different V, I, (specs) they may not be optimal. This is why they should be the same, but it's not necessarily a requirement that they be identical. Even the solar radiance (face different directions) on them may differ, so one would never expect the 2 string output to be identical. I suppose the best way to describe the mppt would be that it provides a best fit voltage on the parallel string, resulting in a non-optimal result across each string individually.

Is this correct?

Mmmm...one wonders just what the component specs are, are they designed for 18A,22A or 26A? Maybe they are using different components over time, but if they upgrade the 18A hardware to 26A firmware how does that affect the longevity of the inverter?

Nope it didn’t help. Current is now being clipped at 19.3 Amps.

Thanks for letting us know I was just about to request it.  The one good thing about the newer firmware is supposed to be the ability to set the output voltage when off grid.

I have 2 MPPT 10x545 and 6x545 where the panels max current is 13A and I can see the capping and that the other array easily reaches 13A

I got the standard response from DEYE about a year ago that the capping was for "safety" reasons.  I guess I would rather not have a fire but they are still selling these as 26+26 which is false adverting.

Mine came with 22Ad.c.+22Ad.c. writen on the right side under the specs.

One thing I am still considering down the line to is to add a micro inverter changing my setup to 3 strings 6 + 6 for the deye and 4 for the micro inverter.  I am unsure if the grid export to CT will be correctly limited. https://youtu.be/YhtRu-FiqpU?t=162
