August 16, 20224 yr I contacted a supplier in Peru, and they told me to just go ahead and buy the Usb - male rs232 and the Female rs232 - RJ11 cables from a computer supply store. Pylontech told me the same. Well sure enough they don't seem to work. I'm not nerdy enough to really dissect the cables and see why. Maybe the cables are OK and there's some other problem. I know baud rate for the US3000 is supposed to be 1200. Also I have the right COM port selected so it's not that. The only other options: The check box, "united" - I assume this is asking if the battery module units are connected in parallel. Then it asks for the number of "units". I assume they're referring to how many battery modules you have connected. Are there any cables that are verified to work that are sold as official products? I can't believe how useless after-sales support has been in my situation. One other thing is that the manual doesn't state how to acheive a baud rate of 1200 on the unit via the ADD switches...what gives?! Edited August 16, 20224 yr by AgroVenturesPeru

I don't know the pylontech very well, but I think this post will help you. You will probably need to get one made up for you.

I came across that link in my search. That is an RJ10. Pylontech said I would need an RJ11 for the US3000. Do you think I could take that schematic you linked to in your first post to an electrician or computer repair shop and have them modify a cable? What would I tell them exactly? Would I just need the RJ11 cable modified, or would I need both cables modified? It's a little frustrating as n Pylontech sent me a document simply showing I would need a USB - male rs232; female rs232 - RJ11. They did not mention that the cables wouldn't work off the shelf, and would need to be modified. This is crazy. Why wouldn't they just sell the cable or include it with the batteries? I've been at this now for two months with Pylontech and my distributor. The distributor just said to send "the battery in." But I can't properly diagnose which battery to send without these cables first. Edited August 19, 20224 yr by AgroVenturesPeru

Oh man, this gets confusing, I didn't notice that. I see that in Youda's post the image refers to a RJ10, but in his text he says RJ11. 5 hours ago, AgroVenturesPeru said: Do you think I could take that schematic you linked to in your first post to an electrician or computer repair shop and have them modify a cable? What would I tell them exactly? I think this is your best bet to try first. They should be able to wire you up a cable or at least know someone who would. Just get them to make you a cable with the pinout as per the schematic, but with a RJ11 plug (does the pylontech doc show the same pinout?). You will need to get the USB-male RS232 (DB9), that is standard wiring and pinout and won't need to be changed, just make sure you get a decent one as the cheap ones don't work. Apparently the prolific chip is best, maybe search the forum to be sure. 5 hours ago, AgroVenturesPeru said: They did not mention that the cables wouldn't work off the shelf, and would need to be modified. This is crazy. Why wouldn't they just sell the cable or include it with the batteries? Yeah it is crazy, there are a lot of people having this problem with many brands of battery and each manufacturer seems to do their own thing with plugs and pinouts. My guess is it is to save money as most customers wouldn't know what to do with the cable and if someone is buying a stack of batteries they wold only need 1 cable and there would be thousands just lying around unused. My final suggestion would be to contact solar assistant and tell them you need that cable with a RJ11 plug instead, maybe they have it or maybe they can advise that it works anyway with the RJ10, it seems those guys know what they are doing when it comes to battery comms. 5 hours ago, AgroVenturesPeru said: I've been at this now for two months I've been having the same comms issues with my shoto battery for 6 weeks now too, but I probably bought the wrong USB RS485 converter in the end, so I understand your frustration. Good luck.
August 22, 20224 yr Author Is there a link to a youtube video showing how this re-wiring of the RJ11/10 is done? It would be good to show the techie what we want done. They may not understand just from that Youda diagram. Wouldn't you also need to modify the USB-maleRS232? If you were to modify only the femaleRS232-RJ11 then wouldn't that cause a mismatch in the wiring between the male and female RS232s? There are other "off the shelf" cables available online. Not sure what the difference is. I can see spending big money for a cable only to get it after waiting one month for shipping, and it's not right. I also noticed there are batteries referred to as US3000 a,b, etc. Mine is just US3000. Not sure if those are different products for different regions or what. https://www.hdcabling.co.za/product/pylontech-console-cable-for-battery-monitoring-us2000-us3000a-b-us3000c-up2500-up5000/ https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274498301389

One would expect them to work if they are made for pylons. 2 hours ago, AgroVenturesPeru said: I also noticed there are batteries referred to as US3000 a,b, etc. Mine is just US3000 I'm not overly familiar with the pylons, from what I've seen sometimes the difference is only the warranty period, maybe comms port differences, not sure. 2 hours ago, AgroVenturesPeru said: I can see spending big money for a cable only to get it after waiting one month for shipping, and it's not right This is why most people here seem to just go to solar assistant as this stuff is their speciality and they've spent the time to figure this all out and their cables seem to work without problems.
August 23, 20224 yr On the US3000 the console port should be as follows : RS232 female pins should be like this : Take a multimeter and check if the wiring matches for TXD and RXD. What is the EXACT error message you get on the screen ? I have seen some mysterious error messages when date / time format doe not match between PC and Pylontech.
