Load shedding Small inverter with Sonoff switch

Featured Replies

Hi All, hope I can get some advice.

my DB is awkwardly placed behind my fridge and my geyser breaker in down the side of my house. I have i stalled a changeover in the garage which is separate from the house for my 7.5 Iva geni (whose all this load shedding it’s pretty expensive to run)

im looking to instal a small 3kva inverter in the garage on my auto changeover however I need to turn off high consumption appliances

I have found the Sonoff loadshedder and wonder I I get the geyser switch if I can automate the geyser to turn off whenever there is a power outage and prehaps do the same for some plug points/ stove etc…

any advice?

If loadshedder acts similar to the DIY solutions for detecting loadshedding it'll act like a "door" switch,ie Open and Closed statuses

You can set Ewelink to turn a circuit/device off based on this status. It won't be instant at worst if you use the default firmware and app but it should cut within a few minutes

That is what I'm doing sonoff on inverter side with relay to mains for a trigger when mains go off, then just run you custom scene,in my case loadshedding fish tank heater, washing machine and extra outside lights off.

Will add more as I get more smart switches

Are you planning on running any form of home-automation? if so there are many ways to detect the power outage and this device is overpriced. The EWElink app has a automation function but I believe you pay extra montly subsription if you want to integrate with IFTTT.

Get a https://leroymerlin.co.za/smart-controller-astute-cbi-81457725 and manually switch them off on the app when running on the small inverter.

Can you give me some more info on your setup?

im looking at a Mecer 3000va inverter with an ATS when power goes down and using the sonoff switches to switch off everything other than lights, fridge, tv and router..

my concern is will this small inverter be able to coupe for the 30 odd sec before these devices power off?

A simple way would be to disconnect the high loads via 3 contacts in parallel. Maximum load of 30A. The small Sonoff only controls the coil which uses little power.

Sonoff is used to give a push msg on phone to indicate grid is off.
