Difference between inverter reading (energy purchased) and municipal reading

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm new to solar and installed a solar system with a Deye 8kw inverter, 10x 545w Canadian solar panels and 3x 4.8kw Dyness batteries.

The reading on the solarman app says that energy purchased for a period of 34 days was 178 units while the municipal bill was for 206 units.

The CT coil was placed properly on the mains so it should be registering all electricity usage.

Is this discrepancy between the readings normal or is there an issue I need to look at with my system or the municipal meter?

Thanks

There are some losses and inefficiencies in many inverters,a little over 10% doesn't look farfetched based on experience

Thanks @PsyWulf, so the amount Solarman registers as "grid power"/"energy purchased" doesn't include that inefficiency loss?

I thought that it was measuring how much electricity was being pulled from the grid (i.e. inclusive of everything), but I'm not very knowledgeable on the technicalities so might have misunderstood that.

Your inverter is not a calibrated device, so apart from losses you will also have measurement inaccuracies.  Depending on the measurement mechanism, the inaccuracy is also likely different at different loads.
