Has anyone had this installed?

would like to know the pros and cons my current solar setup gets me between 9-17kwh per day. I would only like to run my heat pump off my solar panels during the day when the sun is at is highest. any suggests?

 

Just a bunch of high-level thumbsucks and gut-feeling opinions. Don't have it installed, just browsing brochures, etc. If it's for example the Alliance 13kW (heating performance) pool heat pump, the power consumption is 2.43kW. Judging by your solar setup of 9-17kWh generated per day, you've probably got around 2.5kW of panels installed, but you don't mention which inverter or if your panels are idle most of the day. Might help to flesh that out, but let's just run with this thought for now.

If it's a ups-type of inverter like the Axpert, let's say a 3kVA, or even a 5kVA, anything that doesn't blend solar and grid, you could probably not use any of your existing panel power towards the pool heat pump at all.

Anything that blends power, like a grid-tied inverter, or a grid-tied hybrid, or even say a 5kW Axpert King-type of inverter or a Luxpower 5kW (or better), you'd have a chance to divert your power to the pool heat pump, however it'll probably demand all you've got. You almost need to dedicated around 3kW of extra panels (at least) exclusively to the pool heat pump, and still not manage to heat it all on cool/cloudy days or in Winter. Which might be exactly when you want it most. You probably want around 4-5kW panel nameplate power to have better chances of close to year-round usage if running from solar, but without relying on batteries, so maybe even something like a Sunsynk that can push power to this as a non-essential load. Just my 2c for what it's worth.

Apologies I have an OCI-MX 7.2Kva inverter (off-grid) so my inverter is hybrid

with all the load shedding my inverter is hardly idle but let me check my number on Solar Assistant

Some more information from a duplicate post

I am wanting to heat my pool but I don’t want to use Eskom at all, I have 16x 550w panels, should I use my existing panels or do I need to install new panels with a new inverter etc?

I’m thinking of going with a 13kw heat pump….my pool is around 55000L

Looking at it like this, you have enough spare capacity, as long as you run on sunny days and maybe time-shift some loads.
