Hi Guys, please can you advise on what to do with my solar system when going away from home. It is a 3,5KV with 2x490w panels and 2x120ah gel batteries. It runs completely off the grid and I will not have anything connected to it during this time.. I will be away for about 6 weeks.  Thanks.

I go away every 2 month for about 2 weeks and I shut down the system when we  not at home  I think is safer.

Don't like the idea of such a system running with out keeping an eye on it . Those lithium batteries store a lot of power.

Should I switch off all the main circuit breakers (Panels to Inverter, Inverter main DB and Breaker to the batteries)? What happens to the energy generated by the panels? Will it not damage the panels?

The panels will just sit idle if the power cannot go anywhere. It's like any power source that is switched off

What kind of self-discharge can you expect on these gel batteries in that time? I'd consider keeping the batteries connected just to be certain that the charge level remains topped up. Even if you disconnect the circuit breakers on the DB, but that should make no difference really.

I pull all fuses this being the fuses between batteries and inverter and fuses between pv panels and inverter and drop circuit breakers going to and from the inverter .

This isolating all components from each othere .

If your setup is done right you should be able to isolate all your  components from each othere .

If there's a thunderstorm you pull the fuses between pv and inverter .

If there power surges or high volts  there should be an circuit breaker to isolate the inverter from grid .

If your gels are fully charged and isolated from the inverter standing for a month should not be an issue .

Sorry but I got my need to shut the house down from my dad as every time we went away on holiday my dad would drop all circuit breaker as he said you never know what can happen 🔥
