September 13, 20232 yr Hi I just wanted to ask, if you stay in the Ethekwini municipality zone, do you have to register your solar system like they do in the Western Cape? If you do what are the costs and what are the consequences , do they change your meter or charge you more etc?
September 18, 20232 yr As Jeppe said you dont have to.I have spoken to them and they want us to register them but no ways I am going to do that.
December 10, 20232 yr Just a short while ago they wanted to charge a R1500 surcharge to solar panel users. Dont trust them.
December 10, 20232 yr I'll make my usual point that if you're going to connect something that generates electricity and has the ability to feed back into the grid, then the utility has a legitimate interest. If you physically disconnect from the grid then they have no interest. We must expect that municipalities and Eskom will increasingly take an interest in PV installations and require certification.

For sure, and when we have to reg our systems then I shall do that BUT if they try and penalise us then I shall go off grid and disconnect.

What would be helpful (I hope) is that they publish and publicise their regulations, and that the regulationare clear. Then we all know where we stand. At present there are too many rumours flying around - certainly where I live. Look at COCT, you may not be enough of an engineer to completely understand their regulations. You may not agree with the regulations, but at least you know that there ARE regulations.
