Above ground Borehole coming on every 5 mins or so when no water is running.

Featured Replies

Hi All, I have my above ground pump that started running every minutes when no water is being used inside my house. My setup is 2 Jojo tanks, above ground .75kw pump below borehole pump .75kw pump.

checked all water taps outside, no leaks

checked all toilets and faucets for any leaks, no leaks.

As a last test I turned off my pump and used JHB water and saw my meter moving without using water in the house, all I can deduce from this is I either have a leak on one of my pipes, clogged water filter and or glogged piping? Or float on the jojos?

any ideas will help. My motor will surely burn out quite soon if not resolved.

thanks

Most likely you have a leak somewhere you can't see, either underground or in a wall. Blocked pipes or filters wouldn't cause the pump to keep starting, that's because of a loss of pressure due to a leak. If you can adjust the low pressure start point you can reduce the amount of times the pump starts until you find the leak.

Another possibility could be your pressure valve/switch at the pump that has an internal leak, i.e. the water pressure slowly drops off as water seeps back. Pump switches on and the water pressure in the pipe is restored, pump switches off and over time the pressure drops again.

If the original issue was an airlock then perhaps your jojo pump is aerating the water when it enters the house system and recreating the airlock over time. I would try bleeding the pump fully to make sure there is no air in the chamber and then try flushing the system by opening all the taps to see if any big air bubbles come out of the piping.

The fact that originally your water meter still turned when all the taps were off is what led to believe there was a leak... did that stop when the plumber fixed the issue last time?

The built in non return valve could be faulty ,the water is just going back into the tank.

Check if the pipes from the tank to the booster pump are bigger than the pipe after the pump ,this could be causing cavitation (this would be heard as a hissing noise)

good luck
