November 23, 20232 yr Hi, Has anyone installed or got feedback from the Deye solar panel only(ie no batteries or inverter) aircon units? I've searched everywhere on the net but cant gwt much feedback or reviews. The unit I'm talking about is this one; https://www.chillnet.co.za/product/deye-solar-hybrid-aircon-12000-to-24000-btu/ Or if anyone can reccomend an alternative it would be appreciated. Thanks
November 25, 20232 yr Hi @J2020 generally it's better to get an inveter and panels. Then try and power the aircon from that since you can also power your TV and fridge from the same system.
December 28, 20232 yr I saw this unit as well yesterday, it seems the PV is used to offset some of the power usage. I think it's too bleeding edge to consider at this stage, as there are too many possible failing parts, and most AC techs won't be able to possibly service it. Getting an inverter aircon alone is already a savings over older ones, then adding a standalone inverter as your budget allows as mentioned previously.

I would also rather get an inverter hybrid system than this. Using their 4 panels at 1320W at 80%(1050W of 1150W rating) irradiation you will still need some grid or the unit will work at lower output. Then during winter time panels are unused🤔. As said a inverter aircon on PV a better call.

From what I read when PV is low like when using it off grid it just throttles or switches off. I initially thought it must have grid om standby. They also mention with grid on it can use up to 300W from the grid to make up the power required. I assume that is with 4 panels. Using only 3x330W seems a challenge.
December 29, 20232 yr I am wondering what the actual lifespan of that unit will be if it throttles/switches off during cloudy days. It would be a constant startup/shutdown cycle. I assumed it still needed grid power, and only offset what it could from the sun
January 4, 20242 yr Author Thanks everyone. Decided to go with an inverter AC and seperate panels. As stated this seems a bit new and was worried if anyone could repair it if required.
